Obama-Biden Springfield Appearance Thread

I am not going to live blog it but I may add some thoughts if something interesting happens. Here is a thread for you to share your thoughts on the Springfield appearance.

This is a thread about the Springfield appearance only so keep it on topic please.

3:10 pm EDT -Pretty typical event. Not particularly interesting or exciting. The event seems flat to me. Obama's intro is kind of weak to boot. Not great so far. Maybe when Biden gets his chance to praise Obama the excitement level will go up.

3:18 pm EDT - Obama picks up the energy level when he goes back into campaign rhetoric. Introduces Joe Biden.

3:22 pm EDT - Biden looks good and seems full of energy. His speech's theme is NO Bush's Third Term. That is excellent. IF that will be Biden's theme, then should have had him out on the stump a few weeks ago. Gets off a good zinger on McCain's "7 kitchen tables."

3:28 pm EDT - "Literally?" Enough with the literally. It is simply bad usage and annoying.

3:35 pm EDT - A good VP speech, some of the annoying Biden tics show, but all in all, he'll do, so long as the McCain = Bush's Third Term is his theme. Sounds like it will be. The event was a little rough but it was fine. Nothing special, but good enough I think. Too bad it was on a Saturday instead of last Tuesday.

Biden praised McCain and said he would be willing to campaign WITH or against McCain.
So - it appears Biden was willing to be the Veep -on a Dem or Repub ticket. lol

Biden is in bed with the credit card industry and Obama voted AGAINST capping credit card interest rates!
    Hmmm....

And Biden just railed against Cheney's energy bill that gave huge tax cuts to the oil companies - which Obama supported.

Overall, I was underwhelmed. Part 1: Obama singing Biden's praises. Part 2A: Biden singing Obama's praises. Part 2B: why this election is so important.

    Not much to see here.

It will be interesting to see how Biden is used, what his stump speech is like, and where Biden goes; possibly, where Obama doesn't go.

I'm looking forward to hearing Obama's answer to the question, "Why not Hillary?", as well. Sooner or later, he'll have to take and answer that question, unless everyone in the media tanks for him through November.

Amazing the silly negative connotations some people will read into a single word of an Obama speech.  Biden commutes 2-hours each way by train, twice a day in order to be with his family every night.  That's all he meant, he's not demeaning Amtrak or anyone for that matter.

The college town has been going more and more Dem.  And there are Minnesota workers increasingly coming across the river to live in quaint Wisconsin.  (I also know Eau Claire faculty who live in the Twin Cities.)

But it's surrounded by major gun country, where they won't like Obama and Biden for that alone.  Just know that when you see the just words rolling on your just tv screens.

Oh, and it's also a hotbed of nativism, more against Asians (Minnesota and Wisconsin have the most Hmong in the country) because of some awful hunting incidents such as a massacre of good ol' Wisconsin boys and girls at a hunting camp.

Tuesday night I think this would've generated more excitement.  Biden seems energetic enough that he shouldn't be shown off, but let out to run around and make noise.  This speech may get lost in the leadup to the convention now, which is a shame.

Either way Biden looks like he will be a shot in the arm for Obama's campaign.  Hopefully we'll hear more from him and less from Plouffe, say, who I dislike....a lot.

Is there anyone - okay, there are probably some - who listened to him say:

I searched for a leader who understands the rising costs confronting working people, and who will always put their dreams first. A leader who sees clearly the challenges facing America in a changing world, with our security and standing set back by eight years of a failed foreign policy. A leader who shares my vision of an open government that calls all citizens - Democrats, Republicans and Independents - to a common purpose. Above all, I searched for a leader who is ready to step in and be President.

who didn't want to scream: "SHE WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR NOSE, YOU *%@#!!"

    And when he said:

Whether you argue that Clinton finally got the better managed campaign later that she should have had from the start, or that her later momentum came in states where she was heavily favored and should have won, it's true Obama faltered later when faced with her strengths.

But that he was able to win so decisively before that against a brand name Democrat whose husband is a popular two term president did show impressive campaigning ability. Surprised the heck out of a lot of us.

His mandate from the party was in winning more pledged delegates, popular vote and SDs--that's the system that was in place for the primaries.  It can be argued it was very close--and it was--but pretending he has no party mandate is silly.

I am upset over it, I am a blue collar middle class, BA holding, 39, Irish and Italian, Catholic with two kids, two dogs and one house. I always liked Joe and I am done getting the cold shoulder from Obama campaign.

Not going to be able to do it this year. 20 year downticket Dem since I turned 18 and send money to the DNC DCCC DSCC and Kerry, maxed out to Hillary for primary funds, way out of my budget but I know she will fight for what we need.

Now I am tired and sick of being brushed off and ignored and all the way downt he line, disrespected.

Sorry for word fog. I don't buy the BS spin that she was vetted. They kept pushing that library donor, foundation donor meme to make excuses and it is clear they didnt even care to pretend to consider the winner of the popular vote.

I can feel the Scahdenfraude, I am fired up and no longer bitter but pixxed. Bet I'm not the only one.       It definitely pleased him to say all this.  Now they realize that being so openly disdainful of Clinton among themselves (including ultra-aligned pundits like Martin) may not play well with the electorate.  So Martin is apparently given the task of spinning it the other way now.

I really do not understand why there is gnashing of teeth and anger here.  Two politicians went head to head for the Democratic nomination and one won.

I supported Obama, and still do even though I do not like everything that he has chosen to do.

Had Clinton won, I wouldn't have expected her to pick Obama for VP - it would have been great, but I wouldn't have expected it.

Senator Clinton probably did not really want the VP slot.  If she had, she wouldn't have used a kitchen sink strategy when she had already lost mathematically (which she had before her campaign started trying to change the required number of delegates in order to try to get her back into it).

analysis of "Caucuses and  Primaries" to understand the dynamics of this election. The evidence of her work shows that Obama won in caucuses primarily and particularly in states that he won't win in November. It also demonstrates the fraud associated with these caucuses.  Now his polling is showing how that relationship is coming home to roost.  Instead of picking Hillary to bring in those voters he finds a poor substitute totally destroying his "reason d'etre"  As for Hillary picking Obama, I really do think she would have.
