If you didn't make it to Netroots Nation this year, you can watch many of the events live, beginning tomorrow. The agenda is here.

You can watch all of the action (or at least all of our keynotes and panels) at netrootsnation.org, courtesy of ustream.tv.
The wonderful crew at 5 Steps Forward Media will film all Friday, Saturday and Sunday sessions happening in Exhibit Hall 4, Ballroom E, Ballroom F, Room 12, Ballroom G, and Room 12. We'll be building and promoting a fully-searchable video archive in the weeks following the convention.

One not to miss: Air America's Sam Seder interviewing former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman, who is in Austin (with permission of the Court as he is out on an appeal bond.) More than 200 reporters from outlets across the country are in attendance, including the New York Times, Associated Press, Washington Post, Newsweek, Slate, the Wall Street Journal, Sirius and C-SPAN (check your local listings for times).

to Obama, they have gotten beyond tiresome and this one is a personal attack. Netroots Nation is not about Barack Obama although he has a presence there. Progressive activists and Democrats from a wide variety of groups with many different viewpoints are there. If you're not interested, scroll on by but don't do snide drive-bys here. Last warning.

If I were a political candidate I stay as far away as possible from something like Netroots Nation. Why face an ornery group of undisciplined people who take delight in pulling their support from a candidate who does not toe exactly their political line. Indeed, all Obama had to do was read some of the stuff written in support of him in the blogosphere to know that there's no percentage in his attending.

the Times said that Obama's campaign said that he's busy prepping for his trip. Which seems reasonable to me.

But I don't see that he's under any kind of obligation to attend NN -- a relatively small gathering that is (or ought to be) in the bag for him.

He's got plenty to do. For instance, I just read he's opening twenty offices in Virginia this weekend -- if he has any spare time, he ought to spend it there.

where only 2000 people attended. But those 2000 represented another 10 t0 20 thousand or more that could not attend. When someone important in the public eye took the time to attend it was not overlooked by those who could not attend.

In this case it could be argued that those 1800-2000 people you speak of represent 100 thousand people or more.

You tell me how may people participate weekly on Netroots blogs? How many more who don't have contributed to Obama's campaign online? Another 100 thousand or more?

So this argument that a few of you have made that Netroots Nation is thinly attended is just not valid. Many more are affected than just those who physically attend. Will this be written about on blogs and in the MSM as in the past? You bet it will. This gathering is something most people in the Netroots are very proud of and represents a brick and mortar approach to taking the netroots to another level complete with names and faces and important people in government taking the time to honor and respect what the Netroots has done and is trying to do. Obama says it is all about us. Well damn it then why does he not honor and respect that with a few hours of his time. It's not like he doesn't have a private jet with captive news personal to talk to. It's not like that jet does not have state of the art communication that keeps him in contact with whoever he needs to be in contact with. No excuses is all I am saying. And for that Jeralyn gets pissed at me? I'll be in Austin over the weekend. Obama won't. And I am the one to catch flack?

That is all I was trying to say in my original post without being too wordy. But no, my post was an insult to Obama. Yeah right.

It is more like "Obama Bloggers" than a true cross-section of the progressive blogosphere.

Internet conversations are very well suited to Aspergers people who have real problems with face to face social interactions. They can't pick up and process non verbal cues that well, plus some other social handicaps. But there are no problems with eye contact and so forth on the internet. There is plenty of time to compose and revise a thought.

I'd expect Aspergers folks who seem fairly normal on the internet to either seem very quiet in person or a bit overbearing.

I'd also expect some people who seem very patient on the internet to be more rude in person. It's easy to fake manners on the internet and there is no [preview] button in real life.

What I'd be more interested in is how candidate enthusiasm on the internet translates to real life. What do people really say?

My guess is that no one from any of these parts of the Netroots are welcome at Netroots Nation, so I agree the term is a misnomer. They should have stuck with YearlyKos. Or better yet, called themselves Netroots Obamanation -- that would be accurate.

Since he was one of Hillary's biggest advocates, I will be curious to see how he is received.

The netroots love Clark enough to forgive him his support of Hillary.
I find a lot to admire about Clark myself, but the Netroots can't keep themselves from salivating over him. His West Point education, his Rhodes Scholarship, and his military service, plus he's a General! He's just like them! Ok, not really, but he's just like who they imagine they are, plus did I mention he's a General? He's got all the tingly-leg factors going for him.
Hillary should have sent him out to campaign aggressively for her, or announced him as her top VP pick in March; the contradiction with CDS would've caused heads to explode all over the 'Nation' and she would be the nominee.

Last year at Ykos2 I met several people that I held in high regard, but most of them later became 'Change' followers and they now no longer have the same degree of my respect.

But the south in July/August is not my cup of tea. New Orleans folks were fighting to bring it there. Gack and double gack. I hate it when AC is a necessity and not a luxury and outdoors is a place you just do not want to be. Walk out the door and have the heat wilt me and the humidity suffocate me? By choice? No thanks.
