I've been in court all day so I'm ready for a new segment of America's Best Dance Crew on MTV tonight -- especially since Bachelorette Deanna and her snowboarder fiancee Jesse will be on. It starts at 8pm MT and repeats.

or rather yes, but not until it had been on a while and just when I was getting into the first season on dvd, USA canceled it.

Then I didn't want to keep watching because it seemed like (from what I read online) they didn't plan to give it a real ending. I HATE that. (although maybe you can tell me if that's true -- it was quite a trick trying to find out on line if it had a 'real' ending without spoiling myself.

I started watching John Doe on Fox whenever that was -- it wasn't a fab show but ok -- and they canceled it right after the season cliffhanger. I never recovered.

no real ending that I know of....I was surprised to learn it had been canceled. My real upset was the cancellation of "Las Vegas"...no ending there either. I like that the cable channels have new programming for the summer...watching Army Wives...The Closer starts up again next week and then Saving Grace....I know I watch too much TV, but it's what I like to do.

ha ha, I watch all those shows, even though I'm a little embarrassed about Army Wives. I love tho how Roxie is the voice of questioning. She's always doing the wrong thing that's really the right thing.

I love Saving Grace because HH is so kick*ss. I'm tired of all the shows where the main female character is all Touched by an Angel. Although she's still not quite as bad*ss crazy in the head as Starbuck (BSG).

Army Wives. It's a pretty damn good show and boy has Roxie grown over the last year. Think Catherine Bell's character is getting ready to kick her husband to the curb?

As for Saving Grace...HH is great, but I really love Earl! HH is a tough as nails character. I like it...always bounces back, kinda like Hillary.

BTW, I guess I am one of the few who doesn't watch
Battle Star Galactica, although I did in it's first form.

I was a reluctant watcher at first -- only started bc folks at work were badgering me constantly. It's got everything -- humor, drama, wit, intrigue, the epic and the intensely personal. PLUS The President of the Colonies is the kickass Laura Roslin. Sigh... if only. Not shortchanging the female characters on that show.

Earl is fabulous too -- Angel of G*d as Trickster.

And of course, I was a big Buffy fan.

rerun of Pride and Prejudice which is the best dramatization of Austen's novel that I've seen...and I've seen a lot of them. A plus is Colin Firth playing Mr. Darcy, although Firth is so unbelievably good-looking that these days the idea of any sane woman refusing him for being aloof and anti-social seems somewhat absurd. I must confess I could currently do with a little more civility being exhibited in human behavior, so Austin's sly commentary is a treat.

Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth as (none / 0) (#83)

Mr. Darcy and Jennifer Ehle as Elizabeth Bennet is the absolute best ever made. All the other Pride and Prejudices can't compare. I watched it for the first time when it came to the US on A&E in the 90s, taped it, and since then watched it many many times. Just like the friends in Bridget Jones' Diary I have got my fav. scenes.

Since then I have watched all kind of Colin Firth movies - and he is different in each one. Most beautiful and impressive in P&P. Btw. he has the most elegant walk of all the actors ... period.

Kyra Knightly's Mr. Darcy was so unremarkable, I can't even remember his face and name. It almost seems they casted against type so nobody would make a comparison with Colin. Of course, it didn't work. When we watched it we said every once in a while "Colin Firth has nothing to worry about with this Mr. Darcy" ;-) Both Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle should have gotten Emmy awards but of course they didn't.

When P&P was first shown in England - it ran for an hour a week for ca. 6 weeks I think - the streets were empty and women went completely nuts over Colin Firth.

The faux interview with Bridget and Colin Firth (as himself) in the second Bridget Jones novel is an absolute riot. A must read.

Aaah Colin Firth. A favorite subject lol ;-)

P.S. Did you see the "Jane Austen Book Club"? It was a very entertaining and enjoyable film.

know what he's doing. I read where his campaign realizes that they have little chance in OH and FL and perhaps serious problems in MI. Maybe he's hoping that tons of advertising will flip 10 pts. down here in GA. One of them is funny though. It's the one about welfare reform and it's an exact duplicate of the one Bill Clinton ran in the 90's. I guess if he can't be Reagan or Bush I, he'll pretend he's the second coming of Bill Clinton?

McCain certainly doesn't seem too concerned about GA. I really doubt it is in play for Obama. There simply aren't enough AA's to make it a win for Obama.

So I've no excuse not to finish my grading. [grr]

Here's my status: I have an antenna TV (need to get converter box for digital) because, television, I mean... the less of it I watch the better I feel. I've downloaded and watched certain series and that's about the limit of my tolerance. When I have to watch actual TV, ads intact, it just about drives me around the bend.

I love that Jeralyn watches this stuff though. (Doesn't make me want to watch, just find it amusing and entertaining to read her takes on it.)

I'm the same way about TV - quality, not quantity. I refuse to pay for cable or satellite - I live wher I can get six stations with an antenna.

But some shows are worth watching as long as I don't have to adhere to their schedules or watch the commercials.

And DVD RWs to record programs, then play them back when I want to. That way I can fast forward through the ads, which I really really hate.

If my husband is watching in real time, I bolt out of the room every time the ads come on, coming back when the show starts again. I figure it gives me some exercise going back and forth. :-)

I think I'd give up my 'fridge before my Tivo.

Once you go ad-free, you can't go back. Also, I find myself reaching for the remote so I can rewind and re-hear bits at the movies and on the radio. I think everything should be rewindable and fast forwardable.

Where I live, there's ONE channel you can get sometimes and badly over the air. So I have sat., which comes with a DVR, which I adore. Best part is being able to rewind in real time if you miss something. The programming and set-up is a pain, though. Wayyyy too many clumsy menus.

No idea how they compare, but I've been very pleasantly surprised at how good the tech people on the phone or live chat are-- really know their stuff, can talk you patiently through very complicated diagnostic things, chit-chat in a friendly way as they go.

Now that I think of it, the tech people seem to be based in Denver. I like the fact that their support center is in the U.S., although their sales people are in India and can be difficult to understand.

The most serious annoyance is their on-screen guide, which gives you every channel on the system, six at a time, just a couple hours at a time, most of which you can't get because you don't subscribe. If you're just looking for something to occupy a slow evening, it's impossible to wade through all that to find something worthwhile.

The only way to get rid of all that extra crap is to make a "favorites" list, which means going through every channel you do get and adding it to the list. Feh. They want you to see the stuff you can't get so you'll yearn to "upgrade" and give them more money.

Especially series involving mobsters, romance, music, etc. The shallower the better. It's a great escape. The only thing I don't follow is sports and shows about inanimate objects (food, antiques, cars, etc. I need a plot and some action.)

not to me! :-D Maybe it's the artist in me, but I find it to be a whole wonderful world. I love the beauty of it and the creativity. Lately I've been exploring more cooking styles and learning more about traditional dishes and technique. I find the food shows pretty interesting and Iron Chef I usually watch a couple of times depending on the secret ingredient. The dishes they come up with are amazing, imo :) Believe it or not, there is a plot and action, lol!~
I do like the "escape series" also. Especially when my eyes are just too tired to get lost in a book.

I've lost maybe 7-8 pounds in the month since I got it.

There are definitely better exercise regimens to lose weight fast, but a routine that's enjoyable is a lot better than a theoretical hour on the stairmaster that you'll never actually get around to! Plus, it's great for improving your balance, posture and such...

the sake of exercise too excruciatingly boring to stay with it, and I do suffer from serious inertia. But now I have no choice but to haul myself out in the wintertime every day to split down some kindling and haul in wood to dry, whether I want to or not (and I mostly don't), and I find I really love it once I get out there.
The financial incentive, with the cost of oil these days, is a heeuuuge motivator. I have oil back-up for my woodstove, but man, I HATE hearing that thing go on, especially if it's only because I didn't move my butt to get enough burnable wood in the house that day.
Ever considered getting into bird-watching? It's not heavy exercise, for sure, but it gets you outdoors and tromping around. And it's a heck of a marvelous natural scavenger hunt, really addictive.

I have one over my treadmill with my computer on it, a TV to watch if I want, and shelving to the right for all my office stuff. It's great! You only walk about 1 MPH so you can type and do many things while walking. The only thing I have found is difficult is highlighting to copy text. Have to stand on the edges, or stop entirely to do it.
Oh, and I also have a loose platform that fits over it, with a stool to sit on, for times when I just don't have the energy to walk because I am sick or am injured.
Here's a link to some design ideas. Most aren't as extensively built as mine, which is out of wood, stand-alone, and bolted to the floor, so the treadmill can be moved out from under it. That's important if you want to make it permanent.
Hope this wasn't too off topic, it just seems that people who are chained to desks should know about this.

watch the reality shows on Bravo? I generally don't like reality shows but I like theirs. I watch project runway. I also like the Real Housewives series (both NY and Orange County) and the millionaire matchmaker.

I've also been tivoing the Sopranos from A & E. I love that show but didn't like the last season much. I never realized how much I like Adrianna until she was gone.

and that matchmaker woman is the most annoying person on tv. How can you stand those pampered princesses? They are so not good female role models. Have to admit I sometimes watch just to snipe at them. I love Project Runway though. I also like Flipping Out and Kathy G.. But you're not alone in watching them-they keep coming back like the undead. So maybe it's just me... : )

I never said they were role models. Watching The Real Housewives of Orange County is like watching a train wreck. You wonder who is going to screw up next.
The matchmaker I like because it's interesting to see how absolutely clueless some of those men are. One guy even dragged his buddies along on a date. Who ever heard of such? It was hysterical except for the poor girls that had to actually be on the date with him.

when this guest latin american chef---a hot blond woman---was so cutting to some of the contestants who made these ridiculous concoctions.
And then Hyung made arroz con pollo which everyone HATED, and he said "was it too classic?"
That was a good episode.

I love the show, I guess partly because the chefs/owners all seem to make most of the same basic errors in their own ways-- food way too complicated, not knowing their customer base, chaotic kitchen and dining room management, etc.

ones done in America. Some of the chef/owners have no business owning a restaurant. The biggest mistake is people who love to cook thinking having a restaurant would be a breeze...not so. I believe most people are happy with straight up, tasty food...doesn't have to be complicated or fancy. My last menu I created was built around steak, chicken, hamburger...but the trick was I had like six or seven dishes I could use the same cuts of meat or poultry in. The more ingredients, the more complicated it becomes...that was the reader's digest version...I could go on and on.. :)

the fireworks, that's what I really like about Ramsay's advice, always pushing the chefs to simplify and use great ingredients cooked simply rather than mediocre ones loaded up with ingredients and sauces and bells and whistles.

He had one terrific one wiht a pub somewhere that was making crummy gravy out of a premade mix, like glue, showed them how to make good gravy, then led the whole staff on a parade through town demanding the return of "Real gravy." Heh.

reality show I watch (if it's even qualified as one) is "Deadliest Catch" on Discovery. I also like "Survivor Man" and, to a lesser degree, "Man vs. Wild" (Les seems like far less of a preppy show-off than Bear Grylls.)

I did watch Tila Tequila last year, but haven't caught her this year (last year was enough.) My favorite all time "Reality" show was the first Joe Schmo, the staged one, I thought that was pretty interesting. For the most part I'm on my computer during primetime, so I usually watch syndicated favorites like "Fraiser." I really miss that one, they really recaptured the spark in that last year, and the finale was superb.

I have a weird fascination with knowing how to survive stranded in the jungle/desert/tundra with nothing but a single match and old coat hook for tools. Even though the chances of ever being so far from civilization are extremely low for me.

BUT if I'm ever in a plane that crashes in the mountains, hopefully my tv survival skills will enable me to escape being eaten by my fellow passengers throug usefulness.

Les -- started to bug me at the end of last season, too melodramatic ... the environments he's are dramatic enough.

I think he was feeling the pressure to be more like Bear, who I think gets much bigger ratings and a lot more buzz. For a laugh you should go to the Discovery website and see the pie fights there from the fans of both shows.

My support of Les comes from his true focus on survival, instead of needlessly climbing mountains and making everything a big stunt. There will be a third season of Survivorman, I hope he tones it back down and is just himself, it is a much better show when he does.

I've watched Bear but only a few times. My attention kept wandering off. I really like to see the clever ways of using the environment to survive so the dramatic narrative parts are less interesting. I just want to shout, Dude! I get it! You're in the middle of a blazing desert with no water for miles and carnivorous cave goats at your back! Now just get on with making a bicycle out of cactus leaves, or whatever.

I loved the Bollywood last night! That couple (Joshua and Katee) are my favorites since they make every dance they do look good. I hope they make it into the final 4.
Next week, they start switching up the partners so it will be interesting to see how everyone does with new partners.

Gotham Live tonight because a friend of the TL kid's is on -- I carpooled him for years when they were young -- he's now a star on the show The Carpooler -- and so I promised to tivo it for the TL kid tonight and ended up watching -- one was worse than the next -- not only aren't they funny, they are boring. TJ, the one I'm waiting for hasn't come on yet. I sure hope he's better. He was always a very funny kid.
