27 FL Delegates Picked for Denver Convention

Florida selected 27 delegates for the Democratic Convention today.

Of the 27, three will go to the Convention not pledged to a candidate: Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink, Senate Democratic Leader Steve Geller and House Democratic Leader Dan Gelber. The other 24 were allocated based on the statewide results from the January 29th Presidential Primary: 14 pledged to U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton and 10 pledged to U.S. Sen. Barack Obama.

In May, the delegation will be completed with 40 at-large delegates. In March, 121 delegates were elected at the Congressional District-Level. Florida has 23 unpledged delegates ("superdelegates") - 13 Members of the Democratic National Committee and 10 Democratic members of Congress.

    And among the add-on superdelegates (5.00 / 1) (#1)

Obama has gained three SD's in the last 24 hours, Clinton has lost one who switched to uncommitted. Overall SD lead for Clinton is down to 28 from 97 on February 10, 2008.

    seems fair (1.00 / 1) (#3)

although I just wish OB had been given the same opportunity HRC had to campaign down there...but I'll overlook this in favour of the party....MI is another animal altogether.

    Oh, stop with this b.s. -- Obama campaigned (5.00 / 2) (#5)

in Florida, Clinton did not. Obama broke the pledge the day after he signed it by holding a press conference in Florida, and then he broke it again with ads in the state. Clinton abided by the pledge, period. We have been through this again and again on this site, so take the b.s. to a site that might believe you.

    assigning delegates (none / 0) (#2)

I'm curious how delgates get assigned.
"In May, the delegation will be completed with 40 at-large delegates. In March, 121 delegates were elected at the Congressional District-Level. Florida has 23 unpledged delegates ("superdelegates") - 13 Members of the Democratic National Committee and 10 Democratic members of Congress."

27 were initially allocated based on the popular vote (3 undeclared from Edwards), but how did they pick the 121 delegates in March?  Are they also split 50%-33%-14%?

    I don't trust Dean (none / 0) (#6)

I wonder how the delegates are selected. Dean seems to by siding with Obama in many of his decisions. I hope Clinton and Obama were involved somehow with the selections. Otherwise, it'll appear as though Dean is swaying the election.
