Hillary Clinton on Countdown Tonight
Hillary Clinton is on Countdown with Keith Olbermann tonight. I'll try to live-blog. Hope you'll add in in comments.
Keith does an intro with the MSNBC/McClatchy poll showing Hillary up by 5. He then has a tape of Obama saying he's showed great restraint in attacking Clinton. Then he shows Hillary at a rally saying "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen." He plays the Osama image in her PA ad and a bit more of it.
Here's Hillary in Harrisburg. Is the election going to be decided by the price of the gallon of gas? Can a President do anything about the price of gas?
She answers the economy is going to be a big issue. There are things the President can do. She'd launch an investigation to make sure the prices aren't being manipulated. She'd release some oil from the petroleum reserve. She gives more specifics. (So yes, Keith, there are things the President can do.) She then talks about how the President needs to develop a new energy policy. She links it right to gas. She's sounding very smart and ready. [More...]
Next question about the debate segment on Iran. She says deterrence hasn't been used enough. She repeats that if Iran used nuclear weapons against Israel, they'd be hit with the same.
On her ad and image of Osama bin Laden. Is it a scare tactic? That ad is about leadership and she believes she has it.
The next President will be sworn in during a time of difficult challenges. She wants people to understand what a serious decision it is.
Katrina was also part of the ad. We don't know what the next President would face.
She has a unique set of qualifications that prepares her to be President and Commander of Chief. National security will be a big issue in November. She can better face the Republicans. T
hen asks her about her criticism of Obama's statement that McCain is better than Bush. He asks her if she cheered on
Not at all. McCain has long experience on Armed Services. He has the wrong ideas. He would continue the Bush policy on Iraq. That's the wrong policy. That would be worse than Bush. His economic policies are more of the same Bush failed policies.
You can have a law degree and not be right for certain cases. He's not better than Bush, he's more of the same.
He asks her if all criticism of her campaign is sexist? She gives a very long laugh. She says the historic nature of the race is great -- ultimately, it comes down to who is better qualified.
On the vast right conspiracy and Richard Mellon Scaife's endorsement of her. She laughs again. Why did she meet with him and why didn't she reject his endorsement?
She says she was curious -- she was
She believes in conversions -- even death bed conversions. She was surprised (dumfounded) by the endorsement. It shows she's capable of bringing people together.
It's over. Keith was polite. Hillary laughed a lot. Too much? I thought the first half went better for her.
