by BDB on Wed Feb 06, 2008 at 04:05:46 PM EST
Wow, does no one in the Obama camp understand the political history of the last 20 years?  Time and time again, the Republicans have weakened male democratic candidates by feminizing them.  It has been a nasty business and is closely related to the misogynist crap being thrown at Hillary Clinton.

While it's also incredibly offensive because the Obama campaign has already done so much to try to minimize the historic nature of Clinton's candidacy (so now we don't need her, because we have him), it potentially does way more harm to Obama than Clinton.  Republicans love running - and winning - against the girly men.  Or perhaps Obama and his folks don't realize that's part of how Reagan became a transformative president, by hijacking masculine symbols.

I'm generally in the camp that campaigns are not responsible for their supporters' comments.  However, the Obama campaign and its supporters have decided that Clinton is responsible for what every single one of her supporters says even when she denounces them or distances herself from them.  So, based on the Obama folks' standards, he is absolutely responsible for these comments.  Just as Hillary was responsible for Bob Kerry's comments.  What's good for the gander is good for the goose.

Applying the rules that Obama's campaign has established for this race.  That they aren't the rules I would establish is irrelevant.  The rules have been established by Obama, the Obama Fan Base, and the Media.  And so I follow them.

Under those rules, the Obama campaign is claiming that he will be the first woman president.  Now, if he'd care to distance himself from these remarks or this particular supporter, I'll rethink my position.  Which under the rules as I understand them means that I will say that I'm satisfied while my fan base continues to cite to these statements as proof of Obama's ugly campaign tactics.

If Obama doesn't like these rules, he shouldn't have created them.

Why anyone who supports Obama would adopt the same kind of feminizing language is beyond me.  I know they're getting killed with the female vote but this isn't going to change that and it's going to probably hurt him with men, Republicans, and independents.  It's just stupid.

Obama didn't put Clinton away last night because he couldn't shake white women and hispanics away from her.  If he can't change that, he's got potentially big problems on March 4th, even with Clinton's money woes.  So I suspect we're going to be hearing a lot about how much Obama loves women and hispanics and especially hispanic women in the coming weeks.

You know, throughout the entire campaign here in California I never once heard from Obama's campaign until last night after 5 p.m.  On paper, I am someone they should've contacted.  Yes, I'm female, but I'm under 40 (albeit barely), demographically as wine track as you get, and I live in an area that is politically moderate, my Congressman endorsed him.  Last night I got a robo-call from his campaign telling me I could still vote, the polls were still open.  It was the first time I heard from him.  It was also at that moment that I realized Clinton would carry California.  If they were sending frantic messages after 5 on election day to people they'd never talked to before, that's not a sign of confidence about how your day is going.
