Hillary's Campaign Manager Steps Down, Maggie Williams Takes Over

Patti Solis Doyle has stepped down as Hillary Clinton's campaign manager. She will remain as a senior campaign advisor. The new campaign manager is Maggie Williams:

In a note she sent to her staff, Solis Doyle announced that this week Maggie Williams, Clinton's chief of staff when she was first lady, "will begin to assume the duties of campaign manager." Solis Doyle said she would remain as a senior adviser to the campaign.

    This is fantastic news.  Maggie is a barracuda; there is no one better at making the machinery work the way it's supposed to.  Patti was good, but the hiccups in the internal, day-to-day management of the campaign were far too public and happened far too often.  That's never going to happen with Maggie; she is one of the toughest in the business and has an incredibly close relationship with Hillary: this is very good news indeed.

    though the MSM will run with this and mention it constantly as a sign of campaign disarray in the days and weeks to come.

    If memory serves, some of the early scuttlebutt in late 07 involved Bill supposedly not being pleased with the way the campaign was being run, and the name mentioned was PSDoyle.

    I'm not a big fan of Penn's either, but apparently he's done enough right so far, or else he just might be too big and important an insider to let go or demote.  Some folks you have to keep inside the tent and generally keep happy, lest they end up outside the tent with tales to tell (cleaning up the LBJ version of same).

    Online fundraising should have been far more aggressive far earlier, given Obama's huge success there and some progressive org (MoveOn, Kerry list) advantages.  I would have thought any campaign with Terry McAuliffe as Chairman would have at least been equal in the money race.  A puzzler ...

    Isn't Terry McAuliffe expertise in Big Money Contributions?  I don't think that big Money Contributions can keep up with online contributions once a campaign gets going.

    The candidate just doesn't have time to stop and pander to The Special People.

    But she is building a relationship to Regular Guys & Gals and it turns out we like to pitch in a little.

    I hope they've learned the 10 Million Dollar Lesson after this week.

    and Peter Daou's work this week, let loose to go after the netroots for fundraising -- and then doing so well, with $10 million-plus and 100,000 new donors -- showed shifts were coming.  

    Good sign of adaptability by the campaign.  Could have come sooner, but better than inflexibility, the downfall of too many Dem campaigns in past.

    with this news, it's not looking good in Maine and the Potomac primary won't raise spirits either.  But remember, both HRC and BC do better with their backs against the wall and have the ability to regenerate.  

    Having said that, I hope this shake-up means they're ready change organization, esp. in caucus states and win on the 19th!

    ..this is good news, you do have to wonder why they did not look at the Axelrod Patrick race is Mass, they used the exact same strategy only Bill Clinton was played by someone else, but Patrick also rose thru delegate rich caucuses and look at the vote, slipping into first is not the same as being electable the result I believe shows the same problems an Obama nominee would have in the GE less than 45 percent of the State vote.

    I would tell her to quit right now.

    There were 8 candidates and the media wanted only Clinton and Obama because they made a better story. Ignored John Edwards and Kucinich, Biden, Dodd and Richardson and then there were 3. Ignored John Edwards some more and now there are two.

    Media wants Obama and soon that is what will be. I guess Mike Gravel is out there somewhere and hasn't conceded but I'm not sure.

    The media chose which candidates we would get and now they have chosen which candidate will win. Hillary Clinton, or no one else can fight that. No one can raise enough money to fight the media. It can't be done.

    She would be better off just getting out. Jimmy and Roselyn Carter exited Washington D.C. battered and bruised with help of the Democratic "elites", the media and Washington insiders that never took to the Peanut Farmer . Smart, decent and a man of integrity. Makes you wonder how he ever got to the White House in the first place.

    He and Rosalyn moved on and made a good life for themselves and have helped to make life better for many others through their work with Habitat for Humanity.

    After 8 years of the media tearing into Bill and Hillary Clinton it wasn't much of a surprise that Al Gore decided to distance himself from the Clinton Administration as much as possible. Plus there were all those rumors about there being bad blood between the Clintons and the Gores.

    Then Al got lambasted by the media just the way the Clintons had been savaged. He and Tipper have moved on and made a good life for themselves outside of politics. Doesn't keep a goodly share of the media from slapping them around with great frequency in spite of his winning a Nobel Peace Prize and an Academy Award.

    Bill and Hillary Clinton need to get the hell out of politics. Just like Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter, Al and Tipper Gore, they need to move on. This country doesn't deserve them. They will never, ever get a fair shake in this country. It just will not happen. And we should all be very ashamed for that.
