what did you get? (none / 0) (#9)

I got a Canon Power shot. I know very little about cameras. Having fun figuring it out. Mine was completely unexpected; how 'bout you?

That was what my husband got me too (none / 0) (#11)

He didn't get me the Canon I was looking at.  He got me one a bit more simple.  I haven't read the whole book on it yet.  This will be the first camera book I have ever read.  I don't crave mechanical things but I really need to learn how to do this well :)

    I also got a bird cage for my son's small (none / 0) (#12)
by Militarytracy on Thu Dec 25, 2008 at 09:07:48 PM EST
parrot.  He has grown on all of us.  He has a really hideous ugly clunky cage though and I wanted something attractive and more mobile to better enjoy him with.  I have a really good place to hang him (in a cage) in the living room during the day, but you wouldn't want him there if you were trying to have a serious conversation so it needs to be mobile.  My husband found one but it isn't here yet.  It is coming from Tunisia.  I got a photo of it in a card :)

Christmas for you; I'm happy for you. My daughter said she got everything she wanted. She seemed genuinely appreciative. We are lucky.

There weren't many things to want here either.  We have been very fortunate.  We had fewer gifts under the tree this year though.  Whether or not our family joins the unemployed (which is unlikely) the American spending frenzy is officially over at chez MT.  I never cared much for it anyhow but it became so prevalent I had to throw the towel in somewhat or have to be the wet blanket :)

solstice to all.  Jeralyn, Tchris, BTD, thanks for another year (well j&tchris) of my favorite site on the web.  I am grateful I am allowed to post irrespective of how much drivel i add.  Thanks for all of your hard work and providing a forum to a group of relatively anonymous people who get to banter at the expense of your hard work and primary funding.

Kdog, SUO, Squeaky, PPJ, Patrick, Peaches, BigTex, Edgar, Larryinnyc, Militarytracy, nycitystray, and even Cliff, best wishes for a happy and safe holiday season.

For those of you who are religious, best wishes on this special day for you.

It has been a wonderful Christmas this year in spite of many variable things.  Two really fab parties.  We tried Christmas goose and unbelieveably I managed to cook a delicious one and even got the reduction with prunes and wine right.......whew.  We have spent the evening with mom, dad, and josh playing Rock Band 2 for Xbox.  Boy do we ummmm not sound good.  And when your band starts lagging you need to get energetic to attempt to save your performance and not get booed off the stage.  Thank God everyone in the house that can hold a video camera is too busy playing to keep the band alive.

    Goose! (none / 0) (#14)

I used to raise geese (and every other kind of critter) back in my small-farm back-to-the-land days, and I had goose sometimes. Be sure to save the fat. It's actually good for cooking and even spreading on some things. Hope that doesn't sound gross--but I envy you. Yummy!

I read that the fat was really good (none / 0) (#17)

for cooking. I did save a small portion back. Talk about goose grease though, that is some amazing grease and no wonder it was useful pre petroleum.

The egg nog cake I was worried about (none / 0) (#15)
by oculus on Fri Dec 26, 2008 at 02:03:25 AM EST
turned out quite well.  The part I was worried about:  the only egg nog available was soy and I had to use rum in lieu of rum extract.  Not a problem.

Rum instead of rum extract (none / 0) (#18)

is never a problem at my house either :)  I'm glad your cake turned out well.
