box sets are available for a song. Hundreds of cartoons for less than $150, all told.

Because I'm still 5 at heart, it's pretty tempting. Plus, who doesn't love Bugs Bunny?

Who would love Mickey Mouse today (none / 0) (#2)

    as a great idea.

If anyone is doing any online shopping and you do it through igive.com, a portion of the purchase price will be donated to a charity of your choice.

Basically, if the retailer that you're buying from has signed up as a partner with igive, then that retailer donates money based on your purchases -- you aren't spending any additional money.

There are lots of really good retailers who've signed up, including Amazon, Apple, Sephora, Petco, Banana Republic -- you get the idea.

It's a really simple way to give to a charity, especially for things you're buying anyway.

    Store Sales (5.00 / 1) (#4)

Borders has a great coupon for 40% off all books and CD's and DVD's.

J.Crew has MANY things on sale.  In years past they waited until after Christmas.

CVS, for those who know what that is, buy one toy, get one free.

Guess has extra 50% off already marked down prices.

Aeropostale looks like a going out of business sale and it just might be that. Check the company profile and stocks.

Kay-bee-Toys, bankruptcy sale is now on.  Everything has to go.  Almost everything is 50% off.

I am all shopped out. I need, now, to already exchange some stuff as I got wrong size.

Yesterday I received in the mail Hillary's new book, signed and autographed by Hillary for my mother by name.  I never expected it to come in time for Christmas.  Mother is 90; I already gave it to her; she read it immediately!!  So, if you have a Hillary fan in your family and you care to donate to reduce Hillary's campaign debt, get to it!!  This will be a family keepsake forever.

    I was hoping for clothes sales. (5.00 / 1) (#6)

I get all the entertainment I need from the news - tragedy, comedy, drama, and so on.  For melodrama, I'd need cable.

I'll take sales on bird seed, kid's clothes, winter clothes, used keyboard, used drum machine, and a high mpg car.  I'll supply the bows!

Cold, windy but sunny today.  Occasional gusts of hot air as Rick Warren attempts to rehabilitate his public image.

with promise of delivery by Christmas even ordering today at Lands End aka landsend.com.  Give Wisconsin some business, please, and especially that area of the state -- it has been hit very hard by the economy, GM layoffs, etc.

    I should order some pants and jeans (5.00 / 1) (#14)
by Militarytracy on Sun Dec 21, 2008 at 07:15:19 PM EST
after Xmas.  I have long legs but short waisted.  Lands End has always been one of the best places to get a pair of pants that fit wonderfully.  Lately I have been trying to fight with store bought jeans.  I always end up with equal stacks of those that I can tolerate and those that are the same size but intolerable.  Don't why I do that.  It isn't as if I don't know where to get a pair of pants that fits everytime.

with the long legs and short-waistedness; I know what you mean . . . I also have long arms, and those Lands End talls are great, so I don't feel like I've outgrown my sweater with my wrists hanging out.  My brothers also have the same build and like the Lands End extra-long ties. . . .

And when Lands End promises fast delivery, they mean it.

Btw, do you have Lands End outlets (none / 0) (#17)
by Cream City on Sun Dec 21, 2008 at 11:39:07 PM EST
or "inlets," as they're called -- or are those only for us lucky Wisconsinites?  I have several in my city, and I get amazing bargains beyond even the sales markdowns in the catalog or online.

When I was broke in grad school, I found my first LE Inlet and found many a bargain "not quite perfect" that got me through with a bit less in astronomical student loans than would have been, because LE clothes are so sturdy and last forever.  And they did kids' clothes then that, along with our Oshkosh B'Gosh outlets, outfitted my kids at prices that didn't break a grad student's bank. :-)

Is this an open thread? I have a legal question about the medical conscience rule, but I'll refrain from asking it here if this is a shopping thread.

On topic: I haven't started shopping yet and don't think I can afford to. It's been a very bad year.

    no, it's a shopping thread but I'll start (none / 0) (#8)

People should go the the FDA website and sign up for their recall alerts since they don't get much attention in the press.

According to China Labor Watch, 80 percent of the $22.3 billion of toys sold in this country are manufactured in China. All of the major U.S. toy companies have turned to cheap Chinese labor to produce their toys. As a result, American factory jobs are becoming non-existent and our children are being poisoned.
