Golden Globe Nominations Announced

The nominees for this year's Golden Globe awards have been announced. Here's the list.

Some of the nominees' reactions are here and a summary is here. I haven't seen any of the nominated films yet, but I'm now looking forward to seeing Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei in The Wrestler, Javier Bardem in Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Leonard DiCaprio in Revolutionary Road.

The TV ads for Benjamin Button have me overdosed on the film already. Frost/Nixon has gotten great buzz and MILK is reportedly excellent as well. Australia, which I think will be great, isn't on the list. The Reader looks fairly promising.

Which ones look good to you?

    "In Bruges" is a wonderful, (5.00 / 0) (#1)

    very funny movie with the added benefit of being set in Bruges, which I call the medieval Williamsburg.  Note:  this movie is in English; no subtitles.  But, initial distribution of the movie was short and sweet.

    Slumdog is an interesting story.  Violent at times.

    "In Bruges."   The only other one I saw was "Vicky Christina Barcelon" which, although, was one of Woody Allen's best efforts recently, I thought was a real snoozer.

    I thought it was funny also, but it certainly was not a comedy, which  is where it was nominated

    too; Barcelona venue and the acting.

    Also enjoyed Happy-Go-Lucky, which was rather poignant.

    the only films nominated that I've seen are the 3 animated pics. I think Wall-E would be my top choice, although they were all good.

    I've heard absolute raves about Slumdog Millionaire...

    this year - but Batman and Milk are on my list.

    I was ambivalent about Milk because biopics usually are biased, but the initial reviews for Sean Penn/Milk are good to very good, so I'm hopeful.

    was a "slim" book.  But profiles in advance of release describe something more weighty.  Wonder who is correct.

    excellent novel, and the subject matter is pretty heavy.  I read it quite a while ago, but it still ranks as one of my favorites.

    To be honest, I wouldn't have imagined Kate Winslet being cast in the leading role, but she is getting a lot of buzz so maybe she really was able to get into the part.

    big fan of Mickey Rourke since "The Pope of Greenwich Village", and Marisa Tomei...whats not to like about her?  Talented and damn good lookin'.

    Vicky Christina Barcelona.  The movie as a whole has some problems, but they were so relaxed and funny together.  They made the movie worth seeing.

    I can see I have a lot of movies to get to int he next few months.  Good!  The only other ones I have seen on the list are The Duchess and Mamma Mia. Ralph Fiennes was perfect in The Duchess - glad to see him get a nod, but since I haven't seen the other movies I can't comment on his chances.

    I loved Mamma Mia. I can see it being a sentimental favorite even though it may not have been the best movie. Definitely a lot of fun and I hope Meryl Streep wins, because I always hope Meryl Streep wins.
