Writing in the Washington Post, Former FBI agent Jack Cloonan and Sarah Mendelson, author of a report "Closing Guantanamo: From Bumper Sticker to Blue Print" have a plan to close Guantanamo.

Shorter version: Appoint a "blue ribbon panel" of experts to divide those who are left into two categories, those who can be released and those who should be tried in the U.S. criminal justice system. For those who are tried, no use of information gained through torture.

On a related note, a former leader of a team of interrogators in Iraq in 2006 writes, using a pseudomym, I'm Still Tortured by What I Saw in Iraq.

    won't this put the entirety of western civilization at risk of collapsing?

    according to the bush administration, these guys are the most dangerous people in the known universe, they make lex luthor look like some kid playing with his home chemistry set, by comparison.

    If no other countries will take them just give them $300 and a bus ride wherever they want. They have been through enough.

    Total number incarcerated at Gitmo and total number convicted of a serious crime.
    I think the score for justice in this travesty is pretty low.

    seeing the film "Standard Operating Procedure" if you're interested in what occurred in Abu Ghraib and our approved "enhanced interrogation techniques". One of the interviewees was an interrogation specialist who, no surprise, is opposed to these techniques.
