I wondered how long it would be before some guy in Bangalore was writing my column about President Obama. . . . A penny for your thoughts? Now I knew my days were numbered.

She can always create a blog. More likely, HuffPo will hire her - they do need someone to provide even more Clinton Hate.

    For some of this year our grocery store had mechanical ponies you could get 30 seconds on for a penny.  The kids loved it.  One penny, a little reward for surviving the chore of shopping.

    that huffington and dowd aren't twins? they both suffer serious mental problems, they kinda (sorta) look alike, and they both hear voices (not sure if they're the same voices). have you seen their individual birth certificates?

    English-speaking countries, most of whom never heard of Vince Foster.  Hell, 98% of the people in THIS country couldn't identify him today.

    Reading Dowd's piece---beyond the element about her--I found the description of this Pasadena publication's outsourcing of local coverage disgusting.

    The publisher paints it as a natural evolutionary stage of the digital age and paperless publishing on the internet, but I find it actually a distortion of that:

    One of the BIG blessings of the internet and our exploding individual interconnectedness is (as evidenced on sites like this) the chance to read (and to be) commenter/observers 'reporting' from all over the world. We need more on the scene information/views not fewer.

    It seems ironic that at a time when there's more emphasis on 'eating/buying local' some travesty like this might be on the horizon.

    ...this is really old news.

    I lose track of when this started, but it was at least several months ago. Okay, I'm bored. Net search reveals references to this in May, 2007. Putting aside a lot of things about Dowd, writing about something 18 months old is weak. Also seems weak that nobody in the editorial process rejected it for that reason.

    with (very) rare exception, most of ms. dowd's columns for the past almost 20 years should never have made it past the editor's blue pencil. and yet, they have.

    clearly, ms. dowd's editor at they nyt's is even more insane than she is.

    as the child of an irish Catholic mother from the East Coast, I can assure MoDo, there will always be room for her column as sooo many on the EC seem to love the CDS filled rants of her and her fellow 'people'

    think of Matthews, Barnacle, MoDo, Cafferty, im sure there are many others, there seems to be some sort of HillaryCDS, bred into the Irish Catholics from the EC..luckily in my case it either skipped a gen or my Italian half killed it in my DNA..I love Hill and the Big Dawg..

    Short story: My niece is the victim of a serial abuser.  You've all heard her kind of story before.  She is now broke, has no car, no self esteem and does have a newborn child.  She's also a mess mentally.

    We'd like to keep her away from him.  He has a history, complete with at least one run in with the law (is there any other way to get a probation officer?) and at least one outstanding warrant.

    What's the best way to look up prior convictions, outstanding warrants and if he is still under probation?  (I'm doing this remotely as she is in another state.)

    in her state, maybe one who specializes in family law issues.  She really needs expert advice.

    If he has arrest warrants out or has violated probation, a little law enforcement could put him out of circulation long enough to get her head screwed on straight.  She was just in the county mental ward for a suicide attempt.  He apparently has children by at least four different women, including her.  His own mother won't let him in her house.  With this guy, there's not just red flags, there's flashing lights and sirens.

    And she's still calling him.  Guy threatened her with a gun in front of her kids and she's still calling him.

    I'm all for domestic abuse charges and restraining orders but they take time.  (And the cooperation of the victim.)  If law enforcement already has a reason to arrest him, all that needs to be done is to arrange a rendez vous.  This is a rural area.

    if she doesn't get that, there's not much you can do about her until she does get it.

    I suggest an attorney because an attorney will know how to get the information quickly and where the pressure points are to get him picked up, if it's possible.

    I think this is urgent enough that it's no time for laypeople to be trying to make sense of the labyrinthine system.  Hire an expert.

    to find the right gov websites to search on.

    Mom paid for some online information as well.  Guy is still under probation for a receiving stolen property conviction.  He has a tidy rap sheet of lesser charges like driving without a license.  

    Doing stuff long distance isn't ideal, but it's what we are stuck with.  I'll pass on the recommendation for the investigator/lawyer but I'm not sure what they can afford.

    help your niece without involving the state Fabian...the state often just complicates matters more, preventing a clean break.  Not to mention having the cops sicked on you can make a man angry.

    Can somebody in the family take her and her baby in until she gets back on track?
