Stevens Trial Testimony Should End Monday

Ted Stevens will return to the witness stand Monday as prosecutors continue their cross-examination. Although two senators testified for Stevens as character witnesses, a third has been in the audience lending his support: Larry Craig. You can understand why Craig wasn't asked to testify in support of Stevens' good character.

You can review trial coverage in these posts: 9/29, 10/2, 10/9, 10/14, 10/17. The New York Times has this preview of the trial's closing days.

But Ms. Morris did not get to the most damaging evidence, which will almost certainly be used on Monday. In an Oct. 18, 2006, telephone conversation with Mr. Allen that the F.B.I. taped, Mr. Stevens freely discussed all the money Mr. Allen had spent on the renovation and his awareness of the legal problems that could be raised.

Mr. Stevens repeatedly assured Mr. Allen on the tape that he was entitled to spend his own money and that they did nothing wrong. "They're not going to shoot us; it's not Iraq," the senator said, adding that, at worst, "We might have to pay a fine and serve a little time in jail."

Mr. Stevens also repeatedly wrote notes to thank Mr. Allen for his work on the house. "I know you're putting in more work than you're saying," he wrote in one.

However, Allen is the very definition of a snitch, shouldn't we be discounting his testimony?:
Mr. Allen has needed to curry favor with prosecutors, Mr. Sullivan is expected to argue, for a lenient sentence and to obtain $70 million held back from the recent sale of his business on the condition that Veco remain unaffected by the investigation. In exchange for Mr. Allen's guilty plea, the government has agreed not to prosecute his family members or Veco.

Today he concluded testimony saying his leather furniture given to him was not a gift that he's had for several years and was going to give it to his son. He doesn't call them gifts, but loans. Well, thats not allowed too under Senate rules.

His sense of warped reality is what is making decisons impacting Main St. Its sickening. Its why I'm hoping sooner than later we start taking the conversation to term limits.

These lawmakers have passed their moments and have no sense of right and wrong anymore. They enrich themselves handling our tax dollars to creeps like Bill Allen pres. of Veco.

Another gem was when Ted's emails show him thanking Bill for the work done by Veco employees  saying they didn't work for Veco.

If Ted was 13 we'd give him the benefit of the doubt and say he's so young! But he's 84 ! Wait, should we say he's senile? He sounds sharp tongued as a tack to me.

I just hate how the trust for the governing  body of this country is being brought down by the likes of Sen. Ted Stevens.

I hope he gets a nice cushy cot at the grey bar hotel. I'm sorry, I'm not respecting his age, as he doesn't show any for me, the taxpayer to accept the nonsense he's  excusing himself for  accepting gifts because he's a powerful man in the Senate. Republican parsing is just as bad as Democrat parsing.

Types of Negative Ads (none / 0) (#4)

There are the McCain negative ads and there are the Obama negative ads.

McCain negative ads are brutal. They portray Obama as having a link to terrorism, socialism, Moslem faith (not bad but not true), unpatrotic, unamerican, naive, with no experience etc..

Obama negative ads, are mostly linking McCain to Bush, McCain loosing his bearing, and the rest are to explain himself that he is an honest to goodness American.

McCain and Palin are two of the same and their method is attack, attack, attack. But as they do that they forget they are attacking the moslems, and all those millions of Americans who support Obama.

We will know who is on the right side on election day.
