Aspen Daily News Endorses Obama as Palin Campaigns in Colorado
As Gov. Sarah Palin makes the round of Republican strongholds in Colorado today, the Aspen Daily News issues its endorsement of Barack Obama. On John McCain, the paper says:
McCain's own behavior has been cause for concern. He has clearly abandoned the 'maverick' platform that made him popular in 2000, and has shamelessly catered to the religious right, which has its party in a headlock.
It's hard to say what McCain's true colors are, but they were clearly evident in his selection of Sarah Palin as his running mate. While it was a tactical success in energizing the Republican Party, it was a reckless move that would put our country in danger should she ever become commander-in-chief. Not only is she inexperienced and unworldly, Palin just doesn't seem that bright. She dodges too many questions and fumbles too many answers to lead the free world.

Indeed, McCain's campaign has been strange. His precarious thinking is further evidenced by his harebrained attacks of distraction, futilely trying to link Obama to a reformed '60s radical, and stirring rage and fear among the uneducated that Obama is not "one of us." In fact, Obama is not only one of us, he is an exceptional example of what makes our country great. He inspires hope.
Palin is speaking in Loveland, Colorado right now. I'm listening to the live-stream -- She just said Joe the Plumber was the winner of last week's debate. She accuses Obama of socialism and the crowd cheers. "Now is not the time to experiment with socialism."
She says as Mayor in Alaska she eliminated personal income tax and business inventory taxes. As Governor, she put the veto pen to one-half billion dollars in wasteful spending. She suspended the state fuel tax.
Energy independence: We'll create hundreds of thousands of new jobs. She erroneously claims Biden said they don't support clean coal. Talks about wind and coal which G-d has blessed us with. The crowd cheers at the mention of G-d. "We will drill here and drill now, Drill Baby Drill" and the crowd chants along with her. Then she launches "Mine baby Mine."
She moves on to children with special needs and quotes Mother Theresa. "Every child is beautiful before G-d." "John and I have a vision of America where every innocent life counts."
She touts her work getting funding for special needs children in Alaska.
She leads the crowd in a USA chant. She thanks G-d for a leader like John McCain.
She's right about one thing, the choice between McCain and Obama couldn't be clearer.
McCain/Palin is a disaster. Early voting started today in Colorado. Don't forget to mail your ballot in. It's going to come down to whether more of them turn out or more of us.
