Harold Ford Not Sure Who Was Right About Iraq

Via Newshounds' Ellen, reason number 257,000 why the DLC has become irrelevant:

Alan Colmes said, “I think Barack Obama had a great point when he said that those who voted for the war in Iraq and then had to apologize for that vote should probably be the last people to criticize he who was right about the war in Iraq all along.”

Ford’s responded, “Well, I don’t know who’s been right about this war all along.”

“Oh, sure you do,” Colmes said. Then, sounding flabbergasted, he added, “You don’t know who’s been right about the war all along?”

Harold Ford does not know who got it right on Iraq. Perhaps that explains this statement:

I would have gone to DailyKos and told them, ‘I think you’re wrong the way you go about practicing your politics. If you’re serious about winning the war and bringing the country together, get another message and another set of tactics.”

Um, no thank you Harold. We saw how well your tactics worked in Tennessee in 2006 - Senator Bob Corker ® was the result.

and another set of tactics? He's essentially declared a certain political philosophy and method to be unacceptable. How Stalinist.

torture is an American value? If I weren't already completely convinced that the concepts of the DLC were disastrous for the Democratic Party, having them select Harold Ford to head the organization would have done the trick. Talk about someone who is wrong about most issues and not representative of any Democratic Party that I want to be associated with.

That's really kind of it. There's a segment of politicians who like the state of being at war and the change in the nature of national power that comes with it. It has nothing to do with Republican or Democrat.

Harold Ford Jr. supporting Barack Obama position (5.00 / 1) (#9)
by Aaron on Thu Aug 09, 2007 at 07:07:04 PM EST
This is why Barack Obama's candidacy and his message represent new leadership for a new century, it has the ability to reach across the aisle and create consensus, something this country desperately needs.

Harold Ford Jr. is about as far right as you can go and still be a Democrat, he's been a consistent supporter of the president and the war publicly, and through most of his voting record I believe, so what does it say when he's begun to question the direction of the war on a right wing Fox show?

Of course Ford doesn't have to worry about reelection, but I think this represents something of a shift in his position.

I had a chance to watch the AFL-CIO debate, and anyone watching Obama these days can see that he is definitely the only Democratic candidate breaking new ground, and going places where others fear to tread, that's what it takes to be a leader, and that's why Hillary Clinton is so afraid of him.  She is right to be afraid, because the American people have had their fill of politics as usual, and politicians who go along to get along, whilst not representing the best interests of the American people and our country.  Obama is the only candidate who has the guts to at least try and give the American people what they're screaming for, and that is real change, change that will correct the doomed course this nation is on.

I watched Hillary closely in that debate, and she was playing the fear cards, the same tactics the Republicans used in the 2004 election, but she's a little too late to that party, that tact just isn't going to work in the 2008 election.

She'd better rethink her approach and start talking about what she's actually going to do in the White House beyond opposing the Republicans, or Obama will get the Democratic nomination.

    You're so vain, you probably think this (5.00 / 1) (#24)

You know, I am not a particular fan of Ford. And the Fords as a "family" have been involved in quite a bit of what is best defined as "nonsense."

But by and large they were involved in black rights in Memphis when most of you were still in diapers. When you decide they are worthless, please give a nod to the fact that when they spoke "truth to power" it was exactly that and not some leftie babbling nonsense.

Like I said, I'm not a fan. But he and his family bought and paid for a seat at the table. Most of  you are just trying to hitch a ride.

    Jr. was born in 1970 though. (5.00 / 0) (#20)

Here's a Wiki quote re the fam.:

His family has long been prominent in Memphis' black community; the Fords' influence dates back to the mid-20th century when E.H. Crump, a prominent white Democrat, dominated city and state politics and befriended N.J. Ford by ordering that all black deceased persons not otherwise directed by the family be sent to Ford Funeral Homes

that someone who doesn't particularly care for the Fords defends them. Perhaps it is true that a man is best known by his enemies.

I spoke of family and things done in the past.

That you have not the class to acknowledge their efforts harms not them or me.

    Instead it defines you.

Have a nice day. Their is nothing left to say.
