Thanks to Talking Points Memo for posting video of big portions of Hillary Clinton's breakout session -- including one of the two questions I got to ask her -- "How is your attorney general going to be different than Alberto Gonzales?" My question starts at 1:40 into the clip.

The other question I asked her was about warrantless electronic surveillance. I asked her if she were President, what kind of warrantless monitoring procedures would she authorize and what kind would she refuse to authorize? I haven't seen a clip of her answer to that anywhere yet.

Reportedly, there were 350 people who chose to attend Hillary's breakout session over those of the other candidates. That's 1/4 of those who attended Yearly Kos. I think any notion that Hillary was not enthusiastically welcomed at Yearly Kos is wrong. I thought she excelled during the breakout. As you can see from the entirety of the clip (not just my portion) she was cheered throughout.
As Newsweek reported, "The audience lapped it up."

    In fact, I think it saved her from being considered a flop at the convention, given her less-than-stellar performance in the candidates forum.

    I didn't get to see the session.  I know there was a tempest in a teapot moment over PAC money, but aside from that, I heard she perform as well as the others, no?

    Hillary did her breakout session at noon. The Presidential candidates' forum was at 1:15 or so.

    In my opinion, she did better at the breakout forum than at the debate. Edwards was, I think, the clear standout at the debate forum.

    by saying something about a blogger convention. You could hear a hint of dismissiveness in her voice. Also, she pronounces Kos the way I do--with a long "o."

    From where I was sitting, watching the stream at home, I thought Edwards came off as smarmy, saying things that people wanted to hear. I generally like Edwards, so this isn't an attack on him. Obama was sitting forward and looking very defensive the entire time, while Hillary appeared to be holding court.

    Kucinich was Kucinich: hand gestures aplenty, sounding like a Ross Perot who tried and failed to take public speaking lessons from MLK jr. The other three were invisible. For all I could tell they were eating pizza and playing Uno.

    All in all, it was weird.

    Oh how convenient for your high minded principles when President Hillary isn't in office.   How many times did her husband bow to the lawyers instead of killing bin Laden?  She will do exactly the same as President Bush; waterboard and all.  The only difference, you will defend her use of such tactics and probably creatively color them as essential tools.

    if you'd read the comments more closely on this board, you'd know a lot of us crazy lefties got no love for Hillary, and know she is a corporatist just like GDub.

    I'd vote for Satan before I'd vote for another Clinton or Bush.

    while not fully accurate, a basic way to measure enthusiasm is the amount of online contributions and the number of online contributors during the quarter.

    I asked her about warrantless electronic surveillance first and Gonzales second. She chose to answer the question about Gonzales first. Obviously, it was the easier of the two questions.

    I led off the warrantless surveillance question by saying that many of us at YKos were dismayed to come back from dinner Friday night and learn that the Senate had voted to amend FISA. I commended her on having voted against the amendment and then asked her, if President, what kinds of warrantless electronic surveillance she would authorize and which she would refuse to authorize.

    Her husband lost me over his punitive political attack on poor women (that's welfare "reform" for those who weren't paying attention). Hillary and Bill claimed to be friends with the likes of Marian Wright Edelman of the Children's Defense Fund, but torched the village she claimed children needed for political gain. She's a less slick Bill -- and a lying predator on the hopes of the needy.

    its hard enough listening to the candidates (at least those with a chance of winning the nominations)lie and squirm on all the other issues....I'm in no mood for another "for the children" speech, I've heard it 50,000 times.

    It is what it is Tom....duck your head and try to live free....and get Steve Kubby on your state's ballot, it's all we can do.

    Jeralyn, I sat the Clinton breakout, but it was not my first choice. Both the Obama and Edwards breakouts were full when I registered Friday. I doubt I was the only one. Your FISA question was excellent. I have to say I came away from YKOS with a more negative impression of Hillary than I had going in. I just don't get the feeling that she is independent enough from corporate influence to truly overhaul the hideous constitutional attacks perpetrated by the Bush Administration.
