Fox: Hannity "Not A Journalist"

Sean Hannity did some fundraising for Rudy Giuliani. Some folks wondered if Fox Noise cared about this. Well, they did not really wonder - we all know Fox Noise is in the bag for Rudy, from Ailes on down. But Fox responded:

The New York Daily News reported yesterday that Fox News personality Sean Hannity introduced Rudy Giuliani at a closed-door $250/head fundraiser in Cincinnati on August 9. Bill Shine, Fox's senior vice president of programming, said Hannity should not be judged according to the standards of journalistic ethics, which speak out against actively helping a candidate in such a manner. "Sean is not a journalist - Sean is a conservative commentator," Shine said. "Sean doesn't hide, and never has hidden, his beliefs from anyone."

Of course that is true for the entire Fox Noise Network, a propaganda arm of the Republican Party. There are no journalists at Fox Noise. I applaud them for admitting this. So the question is why any Democrat (I am looking at you Harold Ford) would appear on a Republican Propaganda Network?

We should absolutely try to embarrass Democrats who go on Fox News with this, though.

If Fox would, during his show, remove the logo at the bottom-left that identifies the program as "news."

Actually, it'd be even better if they got rid of it altogether, since it's never been much more than a rather unfunny joke.  Do they really want to keep up the pretense that Brit Hume and Chris Wallace are anything other than "conservative commentators"?  How about O'Reilly?

OMG, Hannity is not a journalist! Duh.

Neither is Limbaugh. Neither is Carville. Neither is the editorial board of the Washington Post. But all three will advocate for presidential candidates in the next year. No one's complaining about their advocacy because they aren't journalists.

Name me one that an informed person would call a reporter, much less the exalted poistion of "journalist."

The (Seattke Times) paper's David Postman clarified in an August 14 "Postman on Politics" blog post that while it "sounds like a conservative's parody of how a news meeting would be run... It was only a couple of people who cheered [Rove's resignation] and they, thankfully, are not among the people who get a say in news play."

The premise underlying this whole discussion of Beauchamp and the TNR, for example, is that Limbaugh and Hannity ARE journalists. The whole discussion is about journalism and its practitioners.

They hide behind the righteousness of "impartial journalist" when it's convenient to their argument. When Hannity "interviews" the Sec of State or Limbaugh "interviews" the VP for example. But when caught out on unmistakable bias, suddenly they're just commentators. So convenient, but they can't have it both ways.

was an "entertainer"? or so he's claimed many times, when he's been caught in some inanity or another. granted, not a very good one, but nonetheless..................

i'm not sure exactly what it is mr. hannity does. from the little i've heard him, it's not at all clear he knows either. maybe they just gave him a title, so they could put something next to his name in the staff phonebook?

out of curiosity, do they check the iq's of the audience members, of the various shows? limbaugh has to have the record for the lowest level average audience iq, and still be considered (mildly) sentient beings.

on the Left and on the Right and when they cease to be entertaining, they will be gone because their audience will be gone.

So if you want to get rich, think up a way to get millions of people to listen to you for three hours a day.

Remember PBS and NPR was invented because there wasn't a market for "serious" news, etc.
