R.I.P. James Capozzola

Amidst all the Scooter Libby reactions flying around the blogosphere comes the very sad news that Jim Capozzola of The Rittenhouse Review has died.

Susie at Suburban Guerilla and Skippy have beautiful tributes to him. Avedon Carol at Sideshow has more. Check the comments at Susie's place where many other bloggers have chimed in with their surprise and their sadness.

I don't know how he died, but Susie says he was taken off life support last night.

Jim won a most-deserved early Koufax blogging award for best writing for his post, Al Gore and the Alpha Girls. Check it out if you didn't know Jim or even if you did, just to remember him.

Like other bloggers, in the early years, I was in regular contact with Jim. A few years ago, I know he had been considering going to law school. He had been admitted but wasn't sure it was the right thing for him.

Just the other night I checked his blog and saw that he hadn't posted since March. But, long absences weren't unusual for him, so I didn't think of contacting him.

He leaves behind his beloved bulldog Mildred, about whom he wrote frequently.

R.I.P. Jim, you were a blogosphere original and a great talent. Thank you for your friendship. You will be missed.

    Al Gore and the Alpha Girls really was an amazing post and he did many amazing posts.  It really was a crystallizing point on how to think of the DC press corps and he expressed it better than anyone else had and better than anyone else has.

    it was definitely his suppport and encouragement in the early days of my blogging that kept me going.  

    he was generous and kind and always  ready to help.

    he will be missed.

    How sad.  As a Philadelphian, RR was my first favorite blog.  Always a sense of humor, short and to the point, and an unwavering progressive view.  Jim gets some of the credit for our state's expulsion of Sen. Santorum last year -- he targeted the Evil Rick early and often, with penetrating insight and devastating accuracy.
