Post Debate Thread: Topics Other Than Iraq

John Edwards had the best candidate video I've seen so far.

What did you think about the non-Iraq issues covered?

I would have liked to see something on immigration reform. I don't think there was a single question about crime policy.

There's was lots about race, health care, global warming, gay marriage, foreign relations.

Who impressed you? Who let you down?

What did you think of the questioners' videos? You can view them all here. My favorite was this one.

More..

Since the press will be filled with Hillary's outfit tomorrow (which I loved), here it is:

by jerry on Tue Jul 24, 2007 at 10:29:42 AM EST
What I agreed with was that someone that cradles a gun and calls it his baby sets off my "nut" flag.

I'm not terribly fond of gun control, but I think there are some reasonable limits.

But by us, I mean Democrats, not "those of us in favor of gun control".  I was basically agreeing with you that there are many Dems that dislike gun control, but Biden's remarks will be used against all Democrats.

You and I will be painted with Biden's remarks whether you like that or not.

I was also not thrilled with Richardson's calls for instant gun checks.  I think cooling off periods are reasonable, and perhaps more importantly, I don't want to see yet another effort to create a big privacy defeating database linking police, fbi, hospitals, and mental health institutions.  I see the disconnected databases inefficient and actually a good thing in that regard.

Jerry- Looks like your dream will come true, not with Jeralyn though, but with a bunch of keyboard Kommandos et al.

Tired of the usual chicken dinners, the Manchester Republican Committee is planning to arm supporters next month with Uzis, M-16 rifles and other automatic weapons for a day of target practice at a Pelham firing range.

by jerry on Tue Jul 24, 2007 at 03:24:09 PM EST
Seriously, which fundraiser would I prefer to go to, a rubber chicken dinner where I have to where a tie with people in suits talking at me, or a fundraiser where a bunch of people stand around shooting guns?

Beyond the spectacle of seeing chickenhawks shooting guns, which clearly not all of them will be, I honestly don't understand the fuss this fundraiser is giving.

I come from a very blue, very pro-gun control part of the world, and yet, when I took a gun course, I had a blast.  (No pun intended.)  And so did my equally blue (well, not blue enough but that's a different issue for another group) wife.

I have wanted all wages taxed for Social Security for a long time so I felt sort of let down because nobody really addressed that.......talked around it.  No More I'm a proud Christian stuff, I'm sooooo sick of faith being an issue and I'm not impressed by Obamas faith just like I'm not impressed by Bush's faith or Vitter's faith or anybody's faith these days.  I want my own faith and I don't care about theirs.  Felt like Obama trying to dig on Hillary for the lack of Universal Healthcare on Bill's watch a low blow for Mr. Highbrow and I don't know who the focus group was but they weren't blog junkies cuz Hillary WON.

Stopped watching the debates; they all sound like a bad can of tuna - you know how a good can tastes, but you this can has been canned badly.

Sentencing and punishment policies are actually a crucial issue socially and racially, but no one dare to be "soft on crime."

Immigration avoidance is actually surprising being  the new Republican racial, seemingly safe, issue.

Around October/November when the candidate tree will have less leaves will a good time to tune in.

TU's can just change the tags, but if you're not one you have to republish to change them. They're not supposed to do that btw - tags are supposed to be for search purposes not for taunting. Next time tell them to stop it or you'll email an admin (mcjoan or MB would be your best bets). They can tell who's been fiddling with the tags, and people can get banned for it. Supposedly at least.
