Integrity II

Charles Johnson knows that the administration of daily kos is not the authors of the diaries there, just as he is not responsible for the many racist, sexist and offensive comments at his site Little Green Footballs, but apparently he lacks the integrity to be honest about it. John Cole is a man of integrity and explains why what Johnson has posted is so foul:

Just in case you were keeping score- some anonymous wingnut wrote a nasty anti-military screed on DKOS, had it promptly deleted by the folks at DKOS [It turns out the diarist himself, an crime author named Corey Mitchell, first time diarist with no history at all at daily kos, himself immediately deleted the diary], and that is somehow proof that the left hates troops. . . . A quick refresher- anyone can post a diary there [daily kos]. I could log on to my account and write nothing but BUSH SUCKS BUSH SUCKS BUSH SUCKS BUSH SUCKS. In fact, I just did. . . .

The irony is, like Charles, billo has some nasty comments at his site, about a story about some crocodiles in the Rio Grande (why is that story featured at billo's site ytou think?):

“Hummmmm not a bad idea. Crocs in the river. Free food for the crocs and no waste after." 09 Oct 2006 – 7:09 AM PT

“maybe some loyal American planted it there. We’ll rename the Rio Grande the North American Moat. ‘Cross at your own risk’.” 09 Oct 2006 – 11:45 AM PT

“CrockPot River…. Hot Tamales…..Twist and Turn….Rest in peace….Amen……” 9 Oct 2006 – 12:15 PM PT

“How about importing some piranhas from the Amazon?” 10 Oct 2006 – 4:19 PM PT

I don't hold those comments against billo, just the ones that come out of his mouth.

...immediately delete his piece. It stayed up long enough to collect 151 comments, 95% of which criticized or excoriated the author, something that neither LGF or the other folks who have taken note of this have deigned to mention.

right now and just leaving the rec list that will make up for the decency that kossacks were showing in the above diary.  I suspect Whitney knows what he's up to today.  Why can't some people want to famous for being decent people?  Coulter makes a lot of money.  I suppose Whitney is jealous.

What is one to do about all this free speech and those who do everything they can to be as tolerant of free speech as possible and thereby encourage more of it?  It is no easy thing for some living in a land with all this free speech and nobody to blame it on.

...via Google's cache and double-checked by finding it on the guy's blog, I have to say that I agree with him that his post was actually pro-soldier.

He was arguing that military training (which is designed to make killing an automatic, emotionless, response) can leave veterans emotionally scarred and at greater risk of the sociopathology of the serial killer - and the military is refusing to acknowledge that fact, refusing to provide any sort of, if you will, psychological debriefing for soldiers before they are dismissed with a pat on the back and a "job well done" to deal with the very different world of a civilian life where it not only is not necessary, it's dangerous to assume your life is in jeopardy every single moment.

You may disagree with that argument, but to call it hatred of the troops is absurd.

The line Mitchell crossed was a very different one, the line in our current political culture that says any criticism of "the troops," even by implication, is beyond the pale, marks you as an enemy, an outsider, a heretic to be attacked and shunned.

I have no idea wat he wrote.

IF it was the greatest story ever told it would be wrong to equate it to daily kos and markos.

When I said "you may disagree" I meant the generic you, i.e., "one may disagree," not you, BTD, in particular.

My comment was not directed against you but against the quick reaction to separate Mitchell not only from DKos but from the entire left, characterized in this case both by Cole's description and Meteor Blades's finding it relevant that Mitchell's post "collect[ed] 151 comments, 95% of which criticized or excoriated the author" - because, again, criticism of "the troops" has been placed beyond the pale.

I have no idea wat he wrote.

Perhaps it would have been wise to have gotten some idea before quoting Cole calling him "some anonymous wingnut [who] wrote a nasty anti-military screed."
