Aspen Daily News : Gonzo Edition

The Aspen Daily News Gonzo Edition, dedicated to the late Hunter S. Thompson, is now available online.

"So much for Objective Journalism. Don't bother to look for it here -- not under my byline or anyone else I can think of. With the possible exception of things like box scores, race results, and stock market tabulations, there is no such thing as Objective Journalism. The phrase itself is a pompous contradiction in terms."

There's lots more, including cover art by Ralph Steadman. Go on over and check it out.

Great joy and sadness.  Fond memories and bitter recriminations.  Despair over what we've lost, and are becoming here in the Great PX.

Some great stuff here from the Aspen Daily News, I particularly liked the piece written by Juan, remembering his father the writer, and the work Hunter put into the craft of writing.

Thompson was able to do what all writers aspire to with there words, to create true art with their craft, art that reaches people and speaks to them in ways that go far beyond the words on the page.  Juan reminds us that this is what made his father great, his ability to reach down deep within himself and show us the beauty of his spirit, which through his words was able to connect with millions of people around the world.  Those of us who were able to recognized those deeper undercurrents of the communal humanity we share, will always love and appreciate him for the risk he took in daring to bear his inner self so openly and honestly.
