New Hampshire Republican Debate

I'm watching the Republican debate:

  • Least presidential: Sam Brownbeck (Geeky, awful tie that glitters, who dressed him?)
  • Worst debating skills: John McCain. If he says "My friends" one more time I'm going to mute him.
  • Most hyperbolic: Tom Tancredo for saying the nation will not survive if the immigration bill passes. It's worst feature to him is that we will become a bi-lingual nation.
  • Worst analogy: Rudy on terrorism who conflates the Guyana wannabes into an attempt to destroy JFK last week, as if they were foiled just in the nick of time -- or that they are al Qaeda.

Rudy just got bleeped. Wolf says it was lightening. (Video here.)It's happening again. He's talking about abortion. He says he's personally opposed to it but his view of religion and the Constitution mean women shouldn't be penalized for their right to choose.

Mike Huckabee believes in creationism and not in evolution. He's an ordained minister. In another question he compares himself to Ronald Reagan. He rants about G-D for a while. This guy's dangerous.

John McCain complements Huckabee on his creationism spiel.

Best presenter: Mitt Romney. He seems honest.

Update: Rudy got bleeped again. He's the only one it's happened to. I'm wondering it someone in the control room is messing with him.

Update: Should Scooter Libby get a pardon:

Rudy: A man's life was at stake. No underlying crime. He's probably get a pardon. Via Bradford Plumer at The Plank:

Bonus lunacy: When it comes to Scooter Libby, Giuliani suddenly gets all soft on crime: "This sentence was way out of line." I mean, it's not like he squeegeed anyone's windshield against their will.

Romney: Probably would pardon. No underlying crime. And he never pardoned anyone as Governor.

Tommy Thompson: He'd need to read the transcript but the border cops should be pardoned.

A few others jump on the "I need to read the transcript." What baloney.

Brownbeck: No crime here, he'd probably pardon.

Update: Rudy flip-flop. Earlier he said we aren't safe and terrorists tried to blow up JFK last week. In response to the latest question, he told the asker that we are safe now because of those who served in Iraq.

Mike Huckabee: Rants about pro-life and fetuses. No human life is expendable. Does he also oppose the death penalty, and why not?

Update: I don't know who Ron Paul is but he just gave a great speech against pre-emptive war and trying to convert the rest of the world.

His flip flopping is not necessarily a weakness, he appeals to overlaping segments of Democratic v Republican:  think Imus.

The bleeping is what he wanted so he used banned words in order to remind the base ++ (Imus fans}.

Rudy is a nasty threat who, if elected, could clearly be worse than the CHimp. He is a like a chimera slipping between Cheney, Bush and Rumsfeld,  with a hint of Clinton . Nasty mix, its base would be scary.

Rudy on terrorism who conflates the Guyana wannabes into an attempt to destroy JFK last week, as if they were foiled just in the nick of time -- or that they are al Qaeda.

I have to disagree. This sort of BS seems to work on the lowest common denominator. Rudy's working it exactly like he did in NYC during 9/11/. He appeals to repugs and dems who are prone to being bedwetters, not a small number of voters.

Ron Paul is a Libertarian who runs as a Republican for practical reasons; I would say think of him in terms of the Libertarian Party platform instead of the more typical authoritarian quasi-Christian 'Republicanism'.
