Mary Cheney Delivers Baby Boy

Vice President Dick Cheney's daughter Mary and her partner Heather Poe are the proud parents of Samuel David Cheney.

The White House sent out an announcement. Think Progress reports:

Under Virginia law, Mary’s partner of 15 years, Heather Poe, “will have no legal relationship with her child. She can’t adopt as a second parent. She won’t have her name on the birth certificate.” President Bush will still not say whether or not he supports gay adoption

Ms. Poe's status as phantom mom is just one of a myriad travesties we live with. Why cannot we live people emancipate their relationships?

I'm thinking you're a disgusting excuse for a human being. "Grandpa" Cheney's gonna love this kid as much as he loves his other five grandchildren. He's been extremely supportive of Mary.

NO sense of humor.  Myself, I'm just waiting for someone with better photoshop skillz than mine to add baby-blood-dripping fangs to the VP (and a snacked-upon head to the new arrival).  Because we all know Cheney eats babies.

Not only is a disgusting excuse of a human being, but he has the power to wreak havoc in America and the World. And he uses that power for evil.

He may cherished his heir, but infants in exactly the same situation are demonized by him and his cabal.

Mary Cheney's partner had given birth to the boy, the VP would have had no rights at all to see the child, etc.

That stumped me for a bit. At first I thought of the latest news I had heard of Peter Townsen. He was arrested on child porn charges. He was researching the particular site for a project he was doing about his own experience of being abused as a child.

    Ironic.

Anyway I think that  "It's a Boy" would be a great video for this thread. The words that came to mind were deaf, dumb, and blind boy later in the album.

He will have to not notice the utter and abject hypocrisy right in front of his face for all his life.

    Congratulations to all.  Mazel Tov!

I will note that while I don't know how Virginia rules on this, in many states, the "social mother", Heather Poe, could find herself without parenting rights should the couple break up.

This has been happening more and more when lesbian couples break up.  Seemingly ironically (but not), Glenn Sacks, a fathers' rights activist, has been writing about this issue.

In Virginia you can lose custody to the grandparents if you are a lesbian. I forget the name of the woman/case but it was big news as we started the first second-parent adoption cases in Maryland.
In addition, in Virginia you cannot make contracts with your partner (like buying a house together). Many gay and lesbian couples from VA have moved to MD for a little more legal security.

That is the 1995 case where the grandparents got custody against the wishes of Bottoms and the legal father because Sharon's lifestyle was illegal and immoral and therefore she was unfit as a mother.
The Affirmation of Marriage act is what started driving N.VA gay couples to move across the border to MD.
When I was shopping for grad schools, VA was on the list of states we would never ever move to.

I have two daughters and I am so in love with them.  They are certainly the bestest most funnest things in my life.

Having good, able, willing parents forcibly separated for stupid reasons is just such a tragedy for everyone involved.  And such a horrible invasion of government.

    Thanks for your reply.

i'm thinking you're a complete idiot. no, i take that back, i'm not thinking it, i know it.

considering that dick cheney is only, at best, half human, what does that make the kid, 1/8th?

don't let gramps take you hunting and don't, for god's sake, enlist in the military while he's still around.

there's a special circle in hell, reserved for the likes of the vp: those who suffer from terminal arrogance.
