Chicago Sun-Times Op Ed: Dems Letting The Country Down On Iraq

I do not know who Monroe Anderson is, but I liked this column:

. . . Rather than deftly acting to bring the troops home, the Democrats continue their eye-shifting and throat-clearing while the killing and dying go on and on. Last week, the new majority party yielded to the oxymoron argument that we have to support the troops by keeping them in the line of fire. The Feingold-Reid Iraq Bill that would have cut the funding and thereby forced the president to bring the troops home was defeated Wednesday in the Senate. . . . The Americans who voted the Democrats into power have been let down. Instead of counting on the Democrats to deliver on their implicit promise to end the occupation, we continue to count the costs of not correcting Bush's calamitous course.

Read the whole thing.

Great piece. Hits the nail on the head. We need more responsible journalists to point out that the emporor has no clothes.

Sen. Carl Levin, chairman of the Armed Services Committee, is one of those Democrats. He said he opposes any measure that cuts off money for the war because ''we don't want to send the message to the troops'' that Congress does not support them.

That argument -- made smugly by legislators sitting safely and serenely in Washington, D.C. -- is about as logic-defying as others buzz-worded by the incompetent and corrupt Bush administration.

How do they do it? Is everyone in a stupor? Where is the outrage.

    Only here, it seems.

Remember the rethugs repeatedly saying things like 'how we got here doesn't matter - we have to deal with what is' while they continually ignore history?

Not learning from the past is contagious, apparently....

What on earth would lead you to that conclusion? You think opinions cannot be arrived without the blaghs?

It's one of those iffy things the old media stick on their product and call a blog. The column at Ebony/Jet is what I meant, and not quite seriously. I ran across it here. I suppose bloggery really is in the eye of the beholder.

The piece today was really great, regardless if he is for Obama.

Being for Obama disqualifies you for having an opinion of any value?

I thougth the artilce BTD posted today was really great. More like that.

As far as I am concerned if he writes like that I do not mind that he is a fan of Obama. I most likely would support Obama if he is the nominee, but I am not a fan at this point by a longshot.

Blogger or not he has a strong voice and he has an impact. I am not disqualifying him at all.

Add in more trade deals, increases in H-1B visas, and a bad immigration deal, and its like the Dems ran on nothing but damned lies.  Stop the war, stop and reform trade, secure the borders, and they are doing exactly the opposite.  Let us down is way too mild a term.

DEMS are NOT in charge. That is the first fallacy.

The house can pass any bill they want, but the Senate will not and we cannot overturn a veto.

You need to learn to work with WHAT IS and no what you wish it were.

Frankly, I think the war isn't ending because people aren't desperate enough yet. They would like the war to end, but they're not going to march in the streets. They'll just shake their heads and grumble at the barbecue. It's the boiling frog syndrome.
