The New York Times has an editorial today, "Their Master's Voice" about Bush's loyalty to his yes-men.

It’s a familiar pattern: Mr. Bush sticks by his most trusted aides no matter how evident it is — even to the Republican Congressional chorus — that they are guilty of incompetence, bad judgment, malfeasance or all three. (George Tenet, the director of central intelligence; Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld; and the Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers spring to mind.)

And, of course, Alberto Gonzales.

    ALL those other folk have left their positions, not when they should have, but they are gone. They will let this die down and AGAG will make as graceful an exit as possible - maybe he has kids near college age......

    Wasn't Tenet hired by Clinton? And hasn't he paid both Bush and Clintin back with a book??

    ... to invoke Sailor's Law (e.g. The index of desperation of the wrongwingers is the square of the number of times they invoke clinton or kennedy.)

    In August 2006, the Washington Post reported that Ashcroft's firm had 30 clients, many of which made products or technology aimed at homeland security, and about a third of which the firm has not disclosed, to protect client confidentiality. The firm also had equity stakes in eight client companies. It reported receiving $1.4 million in lobbying fees in the past six months, a small fraction of its total earnings.
