Don Imus Hires Martin Garbus to Sue Over Firing

Don Imus isn't slinking off into obscurity as many hoped. Nor does it seem he has a new gig yet.

Instead, he's hired First Amendment Lawyer Martin Garbus to sue for him.

I'd rather watch Garbus on TV defending him than Imus pal Bo Dietl, but my main feeling is Imus is so last week.

Grounds for the suit seem to be contract provisions...although one would think CBS poured over them before taking decisive action.

Prediction: This will never see a trial. There will be a settlement.

    CBS caved in to blackmail and boycott threats and probably violated a contract although the boycotts would have disappeared in a month or two as the news cycle moved on.  Let them pay.

    Considering that he said nappy heady ho's while in Hymietown where white interlopers and diamond merchants live then you'd be correct.

    I think the rightwing is just upset with Imus for supporting John Kerry in 2004.

    This is just a bit of theater so that CBS can pay with a wink and a nod, only because they were forced to. I'll bet that the settlement is already arranged .

     CBS lawyers undoubtedly pored over the contract before he was terminated. It does not follow, however, that  lawyers advised CBS that it could terminate him without paying him a large amount of money. It most likely just means that CBS decided that in the big picture paying him to not be on the network beats paying him to be on it.

      Now, the issues will be about how much money that will be and to what extent Imus can use a mouthpiece to make him appear a victim to some extent to some larger segment of the population at large.
