Is the US currently fascist?

Is the US currently a dictatorship? No. Is the US currently fascist? Yes. Being fascist doesn't mean citizens don't get to vote. Fascism means government can and does act with impunity to ignore what they want to and act as they want to, votes to the contrary be damned.

Yesterday I read an article from The Guardian titled: Fascist America, in 10 easy steps . Read it and weep. The bush43 administration has already done each of the 10 steps and we're all witnesses.

Today, both Digby's commentary of Naomi Wolf's article and Glenn Greenwald's Interview with Charlie Savage discuss in detail how we've already arrived at this stage.

So, we're here. I guess the important question is how do we reverse ourselves and get out of implied/threatened complete totalitarianism? (ie - remember you on the conservative side, as Digby's post says, the very same new laws that allow bushco to become complete totalitarians will also avail themselves to Hillary (or whichever Democrat wins in '08) as well. You should fear that if you don't fear the monsters that brought it to our doorstep).

We need our Congress to rescind the Military Commissions Act of 2006 (habeas corpus) with a veto proof majority as dumbya will veto any threat to his kingship. We need to rescind The National Defense Authorization Act which guts both the Posse Comitatus Act and the Insurrection Act. We need to rescind significant portions of The Patriot Act.  We need to reverse the politization of the Department of Justice, as an impartial Judiciary & Justice Department Prosection staff is better for EVERYONE. We need to make sure the Judges that are allowed Federal Positions can represent ALL Americans, not just those that voted for Bush/Darth in 2000 & 2004.
