Via Raw Story: As part of his "Straight Talk" tour, John McCain visited Murrells Inlet. Asked a question about Iran, he launched into an impromptu version of the Beach Boys "Barbara Ann," changing the words to "Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran."


He says he was just trying to add a touch of levity.

    and the crowd didn't laugh anywhere as enthusiastically as i think they would've a few years ago. bomb sounds nice, but VFW folks know what follows.

    and he sounds old, and tired. the sniffles didn't help with that. mccain is a washed out old flip flopper, and it shows.

    It is well known that the Beach Boys sung "Bomb Bomb Iran" at Reagan's inaugural party. Coincidentally (?) the hostages were released the next morning. This is neither new nor controversial.

    I think that it's a bad thing do to psychology on people you've never met.

    That said, he seems really depressed to me.  He looks really exhausted and tired and like he's not enjoying life.

    for a senator (not the beach boys) to make a joke about bombing another country?  This is the nail in the coffin for his campaign.

    On one hand we SCREAM about a national tragedy and senseless violence, on the other we parodize a song making light of bombing and killing its citizens.

    Is it any wonder we are becoming more and more violent?  Our violence compartatively speaking reminds me of the sex and debauchery of another can't miss empire, though Caesar is not in charge.

    Remember when the president smirked and said "Let's just say they learned a little something about american justice" or something to that effect, after he finished bragging about our brave servicemen killing members of al qaida.

    This was a stupid, reckless and diplomatically horrendous thing to do.  Violence begets violence and while we may be able to kick the crap out of other armies because of our massive military prowess, we are only providing fuel to the fire for those who would kill innocents as what they conceive as their only recourse.

    Shame on you Mr. McCain.  Of course my deepest apologies if it was really Sasha Cohen playing John McCain in a new movie, because that would absolutely make sense.

    I was young at the time, but was there really a big controversy when the Bomb Iran song was sung at the Reagan inauguration?  I was out of the country in January 1981 so I might have missed it.

    That's lamesauce. what'd he say in response to the question? It was a joke - albeit a miserable one. It sounded like he was getting ready to address the question, and I for one would like to hear his response. This is the kind of nitpicky bs that makes me distrust politics. OOOOOO he said (insert anything at all)...he's got to be the biggest (insert chosen negative name) ever. How can people support him. And it goes on like that on both sides of the political arena and the people that want to really find out where each individaul candidate stands have to wade through tons of bs like that before we can ever find out what anyone thinks. But then again, what does it matter what they say they think. They'll change their mind to go with the highest bidder in the end anyway.

    My vote - do away with money in politics. How about our politicians get paid the same amount across the board - something not ridiculously high - and let them just all line up on youtube and the local stations and tell us what they think. Have the newspapers print only facts about how they have voted in the past and cut out all the analysis and let the people be the ones to interperet things how they want. Scary? probably to politicians (and lawyers)

    Read the Raw Story article.

    Iran is dedicated to the destruction of Israel. That alone should concern us but now they are trying for nuclear capabilities. I totally support the President when he says we will not allow Iran to destroy Israel.

    Um, okay. So he endorses the old "national martyrdom" theory where the Mullahs are just so gosh-darn crazy they're going to lob the first nuke they get at Tel Aviv and dance and ululate for the remaining 30 minutes of their lives. And the only way to stop this nuclear nightmare is to, um, nuke Iran first.

    Somehow this doesn't really seem to help St. John.

    Even McCain's inanity is unoriginal. During the hostage situation in Iran during the Carter administration, that line about "bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran" was not only in circulation, there was actually a recording made based on it which was sold in major music chains. I clearly remember walking though the local shopping mall and seeing a sign advertising the song plastered in the window of the music store.

    It was a few years before I was willing to shop there again.
