Hillary Joins the Anti-Imus Movement

Hillary Clinton has come out swinging against Don Imus. Her campaign sent out this alert:

She has started an initiative on her website encouraging people to show their support for the young women of Rutgers (note: people who send messages do not get signed up for the campaign email list unless they opt in).

After praising the women of the Rutgers' team, she writes:

Don Imus's comments about them were nothing more than small-minded bigotry and coarse sexism. They showed a disregard for basic decency and were disrespectful and degrading to African Americans and women everywhere.

Please join me in sending the young women of Rutgers a message of respect and support. Show them that we are proud to stand with them and for them."

Question: Will she refuse to appear on his show? Here's her quote:

Hillary Clinton said, "I've never been asked to go on the show and I've never wanted to go on his show...and I certainly don't ever intend to go on his show."

Imus ranted about the Clinton at the 1996 press dinner so it's no big leap for Hilliary to slam him.

I'm sure she waited for the furor to rise so she wouldn't be seen as spiteful because whether you agree with Imus or not he took a pretty public cheap shot at them while they were still the first couple.

No love lost between these two and he still berates them as he currently does Bush and Cheney.

the next famous person to say something stupid....I'm getting tired of Imus on the front page.

He's a knucklehead, but enough is enough with the "outrage".  Not to be insensitive, but nobody died ya know?

I wish people could garner this "outrage" towards the occupation of Iraq.  People dying there left and right.

responding to gratuitous criticism of Hillary Clinton.  Good for her for speaking out and providing a forum for like-minded people.  Just wish she had done this a couple days ago.

P.S.  Don't like her present stance on Iraq.

Congratulations to the Rutgers ladies and to Senator Clinton.  I only know what I read about Imus but understand he often uses his bully pulpit to disparage Hillary.  Macho creature, indeed.  Maybe he has slimed once too often and he'll join the ranks of the unemployed millionaires.  Here's hoping.

As a practically daily watcher of the Imus Program on MSNBC I know that Imus (and his cohorts on the show) have continually referred to Hillary Clinton in far more disgustiing comments than those about the Rutger girls. The ignorance expressed on this program is nothing new. It is the basic theme of Imus' attack on people for whom he has some personal disdain. When the ranting gets too repulsive I hit the remote and generally go to chanel 801 on my Directv service. This is one of the music chanels. The only reason I watch Imus is that he does have interesting guests on and there is very little information on any of the other TV news chanels. I'm not interested in what is going on in the Bahama courts.

The Imus flap reminds me that his fundraising effort begins tomorrow. I decided to donate to Rutgers Women's Athletic Program as well as my University.  I'm not advocating stopping to support charities for children but what about advocating for women to continue on to college.

I can't easily find it, so I apologize.  Did Hillary say that Imus should be "fired" by CBS or that what he did does not deserve that level of punishment?
Almost everyone in the United States at this point supports the Rutgers girls basketball team and if Hillary hasn't gone on his show since 1992 it is no great shakes to refuse now.  These are not daring stands for a politician to take.

Update: MSNBC is dropping Imus. I 'll look forward to hearing what all his defenders say now
