Update 3/4: "Rove 2", Dick Wadhams, was unanimously elected to lead the state's Republican party.

Presidential advisor and Republican strategist Karl Rove was in Colorado yesterday, urging Republians to choose Dick Wadhams as chairman of the Colorado Republican Party. Here's what he had to say about the Republican loss in 2006:

During a "repaint the state red dinner," Rove said Republicans suffered a significant defeat in the November elections, but he said he takes a longer view of history and predicted voters will again turn to Republicans for leadership.

"We had a defeat. Can't dress up that pig. We pick ourselves up off the mat, we stand on principle and we get back in the fight," he told a cheering crowd of hundreds of supporters.

Wadhams took some lumps last year when he couldn't save his Virginia senatorial candidate George Allen from self-destruction:

Wadhams managed the re-election campaign last year of Virginia GOP Sen. George Allen, who had been expected to cruise to a second term and make a run for the White House in 2008. Allen was comfortably ahead in polls until August, when he referred to the son of Indian immigrants as "Macaca," regarded by some as a racial slur. The incident, caught on videotape, became international news.

I don't think they can redress the pig in 2008 either, particularly in the West.

Hey Aaron-I despise Mr. Rove's policies, his politics, pretty much everything he stands for. But you just wished for him to be raped in prison. Out of bounds, man.

I really wish people would stop using blog comment threads to air despicable thoughts like this. If you wouldn't say it in a room of mixed company, it probably should stay where it belongs: in your head. It really makes us look bad, as in: no better than the Neanderthals on the right who thrill to similar violent fantasies about people like me and, probably, you. Please don't take this as troll-speak or concern trolling or whatever the phrase is. This is sincere. Moreover, Talkleft is one of the few sites that actually talks about the horror of prison rape, making your comment even more inappropriate.

It's just a joke, which references some similar jokes I posted here back in 2005 and 2006, which I believe are still in the archives. Perhaps I should have follow the comment with a :-).

I would never actually endorse the anal rape of anyone, and I would hope everyone would realize that.

Also as I'm sure you're aware, rape is a fact of life in prison in the United States, it happens every day. One of the ways you cope with horrors like that is to make a joke out of it, it's human nature.

Perhaps you should save your outrage for a country which sits back and allow such things to go on unaddressed and oftentimes unmentioned by anyone, instead of condemning me for reminding everyone of that fact.

I apologize if I offended anyone, that was not my intent.
