March Madness - Final Four Set

Florida v. UCLA, a rematch of last year's Final. A heck of a game on paper.

Georgetown v. Ohio State. Hibbard v. Oden. Tremendous matchup.

Not to brag or anything, but I nailed all 4 Elite Eight games. In addition, I picked 3 out of 4 of the Final Four teams, Florida, UCLA, and Georgetown. I had Texas A&M coming out of the South region, but the miracle Buckeyes survived and then won handily over Memphis in the Regional Final.

    For two reasons.  First, Darren Collison is more of a pure point guard than Jordan Farmar was.  He's quicker, penetrates more, and isn't called on to score as much as Farmar was.  That's because this year they had Josh Shipp back.  And Afflalo looks possessed.  Best defensive team in the country.

    So bring on yer Gators, Tent.

    After that disgrace of an ending to the Vanderbilt game, I just can't swallow them taking it all.  There are times when a ref has to swallow his whistle when the game is on the line, but when Vanderbilt plays perfect D, has the guy triple-teamed beautifully in the post, does EXACTLY what they needed to do, I'm sorry, you don't let a guy take two hopsteps and three gallops to get a shot off to win the game.  Ridiculous.  This wasn't incidental contact, or an extra half step or step on a drive or dunk, this was a guy changing pivot feet more times than Bush has changed his reasons for invading Iraq.  

    Whatever, that's the human element, that's basketball.  It is just THE worst way to lose a game.  Not right.

    they have to cure that tendency to lapse into incredible sloppiness that they displayed in the first half against Kansas. What was that all about? A little maturity and cool-headedness goes a long way.

    ...Kansas decided to try and up-tempo the game.  UCLA wants to grind it out more, but they'll run if they have to, and well.  But, hey, for as out of sync as they seemed to be, they were UP by four at halftime.  Plus, Afflalo had been in a shooting slump for a few games (and they STILL got to the elite 8) but came out of it in the second half of the Kansas game.  If he stays hot, they will be hard to beat.  And I repeat, Georgetown must NOT win it all.  F*cking five step shuffle, hop and a skip and a hop winning shot bullsh*t.

    ...that in the UCLA/KU game there were an NCAA Tournament-record 32 steals.

    12 in a game would be a lot.

    32 is unheard of at this level and tells you the superior level of defense being played by both teams -- Kansas had 17 of them, by the way, which had much to do with that sluggish Bruin start.  "I can't remember a game I've ever been in where there's been 32 steals," said UCLA coach Ben Howland.

    was the 1st time in my life I rooted for the Hoyas...being a life-long St. Johns fan, it wasn't easy, but the Big East gotta be represented in the Final Four, and the comeback against NC plus the overtime dominance was something to watch.

    Go Hoyas!
