Blaming Republicans First

Glenn Greenwald eviscerates a typical nonsense column by Michael Barone, resident GOP shill at US News & World report. Glenn is his usual trenchant self and I recommend you read his post in its entirety, but I want to focus on something different. Barone writes:

In their assessment of what is going on in the world, they seem to start off with a default assumption that we are in the wrong. . . . If something bad happens, the default assumption is that it's their fault. They always blame America -- or the parts of America they don't like -- first.

I am not sure who "they" are, but if Barone is speaking about people like me, I have certainly blamed Bush and the Republicans First since they launched the most disastrous set of policies this country has ever encountered from its leaders. We blame Bush and the Republicans for the Iraq Debacle and all the debacles, scandals, corruption and abuse of the Constitution that have occurred because it is THEIR FAULT! IT was and is THEIR policies. It was and is their scandals. It was and is THEIR abuses. Who should we blame for that? As usual, Barone is of the no accountability school . Any decent Republican shill would be.

Since the best of the Republican shills is Joe Lieberman, it is no surprise that he is part of the Barone chorus:

"There is something profoundly wrong when opposition to the war in Iraq seems to inspire greater passion than opposition to Islamist extremism," Sen. Joseph Lieberman said in a speech last week. What is profoundly wrong is that too many of us are operating off the default assumption and have lost sight of who our real enemies are.

There is something profoundly wrong when a lying weasel like Joe Lieberman presumes to lecture ANYBODY about what is profoundly wrong. Joe Lieberman's lies to Democrats and the American People are profoundlt wrong.

For example, in response to Islamic Extremism, the American People rallied around a President who did not win the 2000 election and fully supported the Global War on Terror. Only 1 Congressperson voted against the War in Afghanistan.

No one Senator Lieberman has forgotten who the real enemies are, except you, Bush and the Republicans. Al Qaida. Islamic extremists. Osama bin Laden. Remember them? Why have you forgotten this? Why are you engaged in a daily war with those of us who want the War on Terror fought effectively? Why do you defend the indefensible Bush Administration?

You are a disgrace.

    I love this bit.....

"There is something profoundly wrong when opposition to the war in Iraq seems to inspire greater passion than opposition to Islamist extremism,"

Lemme break it down for you Joe....I have nothing to do with Islamic extremists.  I don't pay taxes to them to buy their weapons, they do not represent me, they do not govern me.  The US govt. does.  See the difference?

What do they say in AA?....Worry about the things you have control over or something to that effect.  I have no control or say over what the Allah-freaks are doing across the ocean...I do have some say over what my elected leaders are doing...at least theoretically.

Or in a cliched nutshell...get thy own house in order.

Afghanistan: an imperialist war (none / 0) (#1)

It definitely is true that the Democratic Party not only supported the imperialist war on Iraq but also the imperialist war on Afghanistan. Both wars were and are against the interests of the American people.

The WSWS and the Socialist Equality Party certainly did not rally "around a President who did not win the 2000 election" and it also did not and does not supported "the Global War on Terror".

In October 2001 the WSWS wrote:

The World Socialist Web Site condemns the American military assault on Afghanistan. We reject the dishonest claims of the Bush administration that this is a war for justice and the security of the American people against terrorism. ...

The nature of this or any war, its progressive or reactionary character, is determined not by the immediate events that preceded it, but rather by the class structures, economic foundations and international roles of the states that are involved. From this decisive standpoint, the present action by the United States is an imperialist war.

The US government initiated the war in pursuit of far-reaching international interests of the American ruling elite.  What is the main purpose of the war? The collapse of the Soviet Union a decade ago created a political vacuum in Central Asia, which is home to the second largest deposit of proven reserves of petroleum and natural gas in the world.

The Caspian Sea region, to which Afghanistan provides strategic access, harbors approximately 270 billion barrels of oil, some 20 percent of the world's proven reserves. It also contains 665 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, approximately one-eighth of the planet's gas reserves.

These critical resources are located in the world's most politically unstable region. By attacking Afghanistan, setting up a client regime and moving vast military forces into the region, the US aims to establish a new political framework within which it will exert hegemonic control.

The question of what to do about the Taliban in Afghanistan was around for years. The Clinton administration discussed it, and I have no doubt it was discussed early on in the Bush administration.

The question is, what is your point? That we shouldn't have plans on how to take action against enemies and potential enemies??

Well, if that is your point it matches well with your usual positions. At least you are consistent.
