Score Another for the Blogosphere

The L.A. Times gives credit where credit is due: to Josh Marshall's Talking Points and TPM Muckraker for besting the mainstream media on the coverage of the U.S. Attorney firings.

In a third-floor Flower District walkup with bare wooden floors, plain white walls and an excitable toy poodle named Simon, six guys dressed mainly in T-shirts and jeans sit all day in front of computer screens at desks arranged around the oblong room's perimeter, pecking away at their keyboards and, bit by bit, at the media establishment.

The world headquarters of TPM Media is pretty much like any small newsroom, anywhere, except for the shirts. And the dog. And the quiet. Most newsrooms are notably noisy places, full of shrill phones and quacking reporters. Here there is mainly quiet, except for the clacking keyboards.

It's 20 or so blocks up town to the heart of the media establishment, the midtown towers that house the big newspaper, magazine and book publishers. And yet it was here in a neighborhood of bodegas and floral wholesalers that, over the last two months, one of the biggest news stories in the country -- the Bush administration's firing of a group of U.S. attorneys -- was pieced together by the reporters of the blog Talking Points Memo.

Jeralyn, thank you for highlighting the inspiring work of Josh and his crew.  TPM is my first blog-read each day.  I have complete confidence in the content.

    tpm is excellent.

it's my second read of the day after "think progress".

josh marshall is, to my limited knowledge, the only trained reporter in the part of the weblog world i read.

his craft, his integrity, and his growing skill at articulating in straightforward language the heart of the corruption we are living thru are truly impressive.

the blogosphere, thanks to efforts like tpm, like our very own jeralyn, fdl, et al, working their fingers to the bone, getting paid next to nothing if at all, holding down day jobs in most cases, and yet making inroads into the criminality of this truly evil presidential administration, is changing the very nature of news and news-gathering... three cheers for all of you...

And, yes, I DO take it personally

apparently the same thing happened with the Libby case.  At least, the book Anatomy of deceit says that the blog authors were out in front in piecing together what had happened, while the MSM was always a few months behind and did very little investigative journalism or thinking.

I haven't read the book though. If someone wishes to further educate myself on how the left-blogs were ahead on this one, go ahead.

not to toot my own horn over the latimes, but i said much the same thing three days ago about specifically about the libby case and bloggers, and i mentioned my good blog buddy jeralyn merritt of this site.

as the premise of my piece was things to cheer about, i also included the work blogs got done on the backlash against ann coulter and the reversal of the nevada dems decision to let fox broadcast the reno debate.
