Move On Unhappy With House Dems' Iraq Proposal

Via Greg Sargent, one of the best reporters around BTW, Move On privately grumbling to House Dems:

MoveOn is privately demanding that House Dem leaders make key changes to their legislation on Iraq -- a move that could seriously complicate the leadership's efforts to build consensus behind an approach to ending the Iraq war, Election Central has confirmed. MoveOn's Washington director, Tom Matzzie, confirmed in an interview that the group told people in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office this afternoon that they were unhappy with two major components of the bill. He said that the bill lacks tough enough enforcement language -- meaning that the bill doesn't contain strong enough provisions to compel withdrawal after the deadlines set forth in the legislation.

How about a little PUBLIC grumbling Move On?

    The false idea (4.20 / 5) (#2)

that she needs to pass a bill funding the war.

    She does not.

When she comes to the realization that is is Bush who needs her to pass a bill, then she might get her head on straight.

Pelosi isn't stupid, so what the hell is going on with her?! (I think Hoyer is the problem).

Pelosi isn't stupid. What is her problem.

    What is her reason.

thought of calling her and asking one last time?

The soln is so obvious and her actions are so inexplicable.  I'm in favor of giving her one more chance to explain herself in plain language.  Then...

Why she doesn't fire both barrels full of rock salt at the blue dogs is beyond me.

    90 days? (5.00 / 2) (#7)
by Demi Moaned on Wed Mar 14, 2007 at 09:51:21 PM EST
What do you think of McJoan's proposal over at Dailykos?
So what's to be done with such a mess? I think the Progressives should vote their conscience. Vote against it. Join with the hard core Blue Dogs and Republicans and kill it. Scrap it. Start over from scratch. Write a new bill that provides up to, say, 90 days of the funding request but nothing else.

Take the next 90 days to craft legislation that makes sense. This bill doesn't have to be rushed and forced into a bad compromise. Give us more time to put pressure on the Blue Dogs to support the original Murtha proposal, the proposal that the majority of Americans think is an absolute no brainer.

This seems sensible to me in that it doesn't shut everything down, yet avoids giving Bush a blank check.

that Major Danby has a fundamental misunderstanding of this issue?

His recd diary at DailyKos makes a point I agree with--that we can't expect party-line compliance from all Democrats, but applies it to the wrong case: funding Iraq.

has a fundamental misunderstanding on virtually every issue.

    He writes about nonsequitors.

I do not waste time on Danby's ruminations. They mean nothing to me.

    Obama cult types.

No serious person really thinks what Danby has to say is any way relevant.

I certainly do not and told him so to his face.

Nothing he writes relates to what I write.
