You Tube Cracking Down, Removing Videos

You Tube has been on a witch hunt lately, removing copyrighted videos. To me, the real value of You Tube has been the music videos. I just checked my saved favorites list, and 10 (of 27) are no longer available. That totally devalues You Tube for me.

It's not just music either, it's also television segments they are removing.

Thank goodness for John Amato of Crooks and Liars who posts the tv videos on his own servers.

Politics TV will also be hosting their own stuff.

    just bought them for 1.76 Billion. One possible explanation.

    This is precisely why Google bought Youtube, to get control over an entity which should not be under corporate control.  I knew this was coming, everyone did.  It's all about protecting profit margins, and preventing individuals from expressing themselves in any way that might be dangerous to corporate interests.

    Very soon youtube will be a dead zone, as it is slowly stripped of the very thing that made it so popular.  Next thing you know it will be a pay service, pay to post and pay to visit.

    Thankfully there's nothing to stop someone from creating a new one, there already are several out there.  It's all about control people, controlling you, controlling what you see, controlling what you think.  And making you pay, that's the most important thing, you must pay and pay and pay.

    Wake up America and the world, throw down your corporate oppressors.

         Wasn't Youtube threatened by a lawsuit by Viacom (another big corporate entity) unless they took off Viacom's copytighted material?  Why are the kneejerk people blaming YouTube or Google instead of Viacom or the legal system?  
         In fact, I heard that Viacom and NBC want to set up a competitive site to YouTube, which may explain the whole thing.

    Would you mind if someone started using your copy written graphics you have in your posts at their website?

    I am not a big fan of google, or viacom or who ever, but if the only way someone can express themselves with with using someone else's intellectual property then they have a problem.

      For example, Neil Young has consistently complained about people publishing his work without his permission. As far back as his film Journey Through the Past he openly complained about bootleg copies of his performances, both because other people were profiting from his work. for him maybe more importantly,  and because it robbed him of artistic control in determining which performances were published and which were not because he didn't think they should be.

      There are many of us who would never dream of stealing tangible property belonging to another who have no problem with misappropriating the intellectual property of others and there are some distinctions which can be made, but (unless you reject the concept of private property) owners do have a right to control their property in accordance with law.

    hardly say that pointing out the recent acquisition as a "possible explanation" is a keejerk reaction. It could be just a coincidence.
