Quote of the Day

Via Atrios, the Heartland speaks:

“You people are really nuts,” she told a reporter during a phone interview. “There’s kids dying in the war, the price of oil right now — there’s better things in this world to be thinking about than who served Hillary Clinton at Maid-Rite and who got a tip and who didn’t get a tip.”

That this was said by the person who was wrongly alleged to have not received a tip speaks volumes.

But this is a warning for us all. Too many blogs ignore the issues and go for the so-called "poltics." Too many citizens do the same thing. Of course it starts with the Media, but we do not have to echo it.

If you care about issues, then talk about issues. Despite what the Media thinks:

In the first five months of this year, almost two-thirds of the mainstream media campaign coverage was devoted to the horse race (and subsidiaries thereof, like polls, tactics and fund-raising). Why do we do it? Lots of reasons. I’ll start with the obvious: We can’t help ourselves! . . . Another reason: It’s easier. It takes time and patience to dig through records, to get answers from candidates that go beyond spin.

Only the lazy and stupid think discussing issues is hard or uninteresting. Yes that means the Media. But it does not have to mean us.

    Does the name `Fluffy' mean anything to you? (5.00 / 2) (#2)

Yeesh. From the NYTimes link above:

But by then the story had been picked up and expanded upon on by, among others, the Drudge Report, which included a link to a report about a tip that Mrs. Clinton neglected to give in 2000. The Web sites of NBC News and ABC News also carried the story.

Trillions of dollars later thrown into a black hole of an elective, illegal war of aggression and a tip kerfuffle from eight years ago is what gets the media hounds excited?

At least the Clinton campaign got this war room up and running, unlike the Bush era Dems, whose apparent need to get the Feng Shui consultants and decorators in with color swatches.

(It seemed like every week, the Dems promised a new "war room" to debunk unremitting Repug meanness but which never did materialize. Now we know that the Dems have been playing footsie with them off camera all along and feigning impotence for the base.)

I hope the web site next gets to work on the Faux News story that Hillary had Kathleen Willey's cats whacked. I kid you not. This made Olbermann's Worst Person vid.

Faux News reports, without irony, that Hillary Clinton had Kathleen Willey's cats whacked. Faux's "Mad" Melanie Morgan confidently revealed that a private investigator "had all but admitted to her" that a hired cat-whacker went after Willey's kitty cats "on Hillary's orders."

Fox's Brian Kilmead: "But it didn't stop there. Does the name `Fluffy' mean anything to you?"

Here's more detail, from Crooks & Liars. I never knew that Sen. Clinton was so accomplished in the dark arts.

My view of HRC was most closely expressed by Katha Pollit: [Not my favorite by a long shot but] "If people don't stop saying incredibly sexist things about Hillary Clinton, I may just have to vote for her."

But now that Sen. is causing right wing heads to explode right and left, I wonder if she might just be the kind of instant wrecking crew we need to take down every monument of the Bush / Cheney reign FAST.

    "fluffer". sorry, low-hanging fruit.

fox news (or, as it's known in the biz "faux news") is now complaining that sen. clinton left too large a tip, spending money like a drunken sailor on shore leave. oh the humanity!

geez, you just can't please some people.

as for ms. willey, she's in serial need of professional medical care, having been long discredited by independent counsel, and constantly outing herself as a nutball.

Hillary has overtipped and is obviously attempting to buy votes. This calls for a special investigator because it must be illegal. I am sure it is the way she has won her Senate seat and how she manage to be a frontrunner in the presidential race.

    Setting the record straight on Maid-Rite (5.00 / 1) (#6)
by Aaron on Fri Nov 09, 2007 at 12:12:14 PM EST
I don't want to be a buzz kill, but at the Maid-Rite I'm familiar with since I was a kid, in Quincy, Illinois, they have a no tipping policy posted, and it's been that way for as long as I can remember.  Apparently the owners attempt to make it more family-friendly.  Though I will admit I've left tips.

Also for the record, a Maid-Rite is not a sloppy Joe.  It's just a bunch of hamburger meat that has been cooked for a long time in its own fat, and remains loose, sometimes referred to as a loose meat sandwich.  It's not seasoned in any way, as far as I know.  It kind of looks like taco meat without the seasoning.  It's served on a hamburger bun with mustard and onions.

The best way to eat one is to press it flat while it's still in its wax paper wrapping, to keep the meat from falling out of the bun.  I was never much of a fan though, I prefer their pork tenderloin sandwich.

Can't speak for Illinois.  I don't remember ever tipping for one though.

Now back to Hillary and cats.  Apparently she shuttled Socks, the star of Hillary's best seller, off to a White House secretary.  Quite shameful!  Not really.

It was just a mistake - but a very stupid one.  Amateurish for someone of that caliber.  Campaigning in the state, telling the tale of a waitress you just stiffed would get a write up from anyone.  It is quite simply, comedy.

    It does speak... (1.00 / 1) (#12)

"That this was said by the person who was wrongly alleged to have not received a tip speaks volumes."

It speaks volumes, but not the way you seem to think.  If you are willing to condone the slighting of "little people", then it says something about your character - and not something good, either.

You may think it was irrelevant that the waitress claimed to be stiffed, or that she was irritated to be used as an example without her permission - but I rather suspect that you would object to someone holding you or your child up as an example (of anything) without asking your permission.

Small things add up. The sad part is how many people - on both sides of the aisle - are generally willing to ignore "the small stuff".

You have reached a new level of ignorance.

The tip was left. NPR blew it.

Soi if you actually DID CARE about the issue, and frankly I donot agree that it is a window into the soul of the candidate whether their campaign left a tip, then you should be praising Hillary here.

Since the chances of that are ZERO, I know you for the phony dissembler that you are.

Whether the tip was left isn't relevant.  It was a valid thing to question, which was my point.  One which is over your head, it looks like.

You are FOS up to your ears. The "little people" as you put it spoke:

"You people are really nuts," she told a reporter during a phone interview. "There's kids dying in the war, the price of oil right now -- there's better things in this world to be thinking about than who served Hillary Clinton at Maid-Rite and who got a tip and who didn't get a tip."

But you do not care about her,  or what she has to say. The "small stuff" hah, all you care about are the big people in wingnuttia who are spinning a lie into big stuff in an attempt to smear a Democrat.

What a dishonest shill you are.

Too bad you weren't outraged when the lazy, corrupt, corporate media went on and on about Edwards' hair cut?

Really BTD, you should shoot and post a weepy video, titled: "LEAVE HILLARY ALONE!!!!!"

I bet it would make "Countdown"

At the very least, it would be a hoot at the Clinton-campaign-holiday party.
