Atrios points out that the fondest Beltway wish that the American People will turn around and start supporting the Iraq War, exemplified by Howie Kurtz and Michael Crowley of TNR, has been shattered:

Iraq war opposition at all-time high. New CNN poll released today finds:

Support for the war in Iraq has dropped to 31 percent and the 68 percent who oppose the war is a new record.

Despite the drop in violence in Iraq, only one quarter of Americans believes the U.S. is winning the war. There has been virtually no change in the past month in the number of Americans who believe that things are going badly for the U.S. in the war in Iraq.

Let the whining begin.

    That leaves 7% of Americans who hate Bush but love the war. The incompetence dodge crowd is shrinking almost as quickly as the world is flattening, I guess.

    a brand new plan to pretend to want to end it with:

    So let the ENTIRE Democratic ticket including congresspersons run in 2008 to pull out of Iraq on January 21, 2009.

    Found this at TPM. Pollster.com shows a sustained uptick in support for the war:
    It is too early, and the changes too modest, to declare this a "turning point" in opinion, but the changes are consistent enough to take a hard look and ponder if there is still potential for significant shifts over the next 52 weeks until Election Day 2008.

    The single most striking shift is the change in opinion about how the war in Iraq is going. After four and a half years of steady downward trends, there has been a reversal of direction since July.
