Tom Tancredo Retiring From Congress

I've been waiting to write about Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo's retirement announcement until my post went up at 5280. It's there now, as is Jason Bane's about who may succeed him.

My take (and yes, it's a pretty gracious one for me, considering how off-the-wall I think he is on immigration):

It sounds like he’s tired and needs to regroup and refocus. It’s understandable. He’s been running on a shoe-string budget. He doesn’t fly on chartered jets and he doesn’t stay in luxury hotels like his competitor, Rudy Giuliani.

I may not agree with his politics but it’s hard not to credit the passion and stamina he’s shown to date. All in all, I think he’s made a wise decision for him and for Colorado.

I'm actually kind of sad we won't have him to kick around any more.

Let's make a list of all those who probably let out a cheer when they heard the news. I'll start:

    • ACLU
    • MexicanGovernment
    • crooked banks
    • crooked growers
    • crooked businesses
    • sweatshop operators everywhere

    Your turn.

I wouldn't be so sure that you won't have Rep. Tancredo "to kick around anymore".  He's much too valuable not to be involved in Colorado politics.  He'll be back as he has a large following not only in Colorado, but also nationally.  I wish him well. He's a true patriot and Americans want his involvement...... especially with the illegal immigration issue.

because that's the feeling one gets when the low-hanging fruit has been picked off the tree.  There are still plenty of nutjobs out there on the immigration issue and many more.  Moreover, if it's only the low-hanging fruit one picks, one leaves a lot behind.

And, as to "not having him to kick around any more", that's also what Tricky Dick said about himself when he lost in 1962.  Look where that wound up....

for the same reason george allen was: he was less dangerous in washington, than back in his home state. although, in allen's case, that would actually be california.

somehow, we'll all get over his loss.
