Bump and Update: The Rockies win. The crowd's screaming. The team is going crazy. The Diamondbacks are just staring. There's fireworks, I can see and hear them from my terrace a few miles away.

It's the Purple Reign. Congratulations, Rockies!

The floodgates just opened in the 4th inning. It's 6 to 1 and if the Colorado Rockies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight, they go to the World Series.

The crowd is wild. The Diamondbacks' manager looks totally defeated. The game is being broadcast on TBS. Even for a non-sports fan like me, it's very exciting. Tune in if you get a chance.

Update: Arizona just made a comeback in the 8th inning, and it's 6 to 4.

Best sign so far: "Is this Heaven? No, It's Colorado."

Update: Denver just got a "Rockies Road."

Denver mayor John Hickenlooper and Colorado governor Bill Ritter made it official Monday evening, renaming 21st St. as "Rockies Road" an hour before Colorado's home team attempted a sweep of the visiting Diamondbacks in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series.

...about the Rocks not having enough starting pitching. They have everything they need, the biggest being unimaginable confidence and momentum. To think my Padres were a strike away from taking the wild-card spot from them. Then they were one inning away with their HOF closer on the mound. I have physical therapy to get to.

they have really played well. Now, let's go back and see what I said about them, before the playoffs started:

Colorado Rockies. Another bunch of kids playing spectacularly. They went 13-1 to finish the season, ending in a dead tie (89-73) with San Diego. They will have to play the Padres today, in Colorado, in a one-game playoff to determine the wild card winner and go on to Philadelphia. The Rockies are, in my opinion, the most dangerous team in the playoffs. Highly motivated, they swept a three-game series from the Yankees during interleague play in June, and looked very tough doing it. Watch shortstop Troy Tulowitzki - a strong contender for Rookie of the Year who will turn 23 next week - and veteran first baseman Todd Helton - long one of the best hitters in the league. How they managed to incorporate these kids with some veterans who are, charitably, castoffs from other teams into a winner is beyond me, but if they get past San Diego, they could go all the way.

I'm waiting to see how they come back from their next loss, because I do not believe they will sweep either the Sox or the Indians. Right now, they're riding a very, very hot streak. If they can take an "L" and shake it off, I'd suspect they will win the Series. I say this as much as I'd like to see the Indians win because they haven't since 1948 - at this time of the year, a hot team (the Rox) can often beat a better team (the Indians).

And, FWIW, did I tell you about Tulowitzki and Helton? Holliday (NLCS MVP, .333 (5/15), 2HR, 4RBI during the NLCS sweep over Arizona - and a strong candidate for NL MVP) has turned out pretty well, too.

Its hard not to root for a team with a low payroll and that goes on such a roll to end the season.

but, then theres the Coors family and their politics and I remember something last season about the team being composed of good Christians. Give me a team of fine upstanding citizens, sure, but Christians?

Just saying... That the rockies are fun to watch, but I still feel slightly queasy thinking about those right-wingnut Coors family and their Christian employees jumping up and down for each run scored by the Rockies.

MLB is doing a great-job of covering up the Rockies' christian revolution, I had no clue. I know born-again is all the rage in professional sports, but not on one team to such an extreme, from management on down.

I like to believe me, my teamates, the opponents and the refs/umps decide the outcome of the game...not a "higher power". Otherwise, why play?

It's just the name of the stadium. The team is owned by the Montfort brothers.

Praising G-d, which Montfort did after the win last night, isn't the same as praising any particular religion. Think how many academy award and grammy winners have thanked G-d after they won. I've seen a comment somewhere that said he also thanked those in "his stadium" but I heard it as "this stadium,"referring to the fans and employees, etc.

Since I haven't followed the team before these past two weeks, I don't know much about their religious fervor, and I'm not jumping on this bandwagon.

Makes no mind to me, I'm not rooting for them because they knocked my Dodgers out. Now I have to root for my wife's beloved Red Sox...

I consider myself a Christian, too. But, I've always felt that players (or academy award winning actor/actresses) who thank God for their Athletic accomplishments come off as ridiculous knowing every athlete whether Christian or not experiences his or her share of defeat. Sorry, but God just doesn't care who wins sporting events (Wars neither).

And I wouldn't say that Coors just has the naming rights of the stadium. They have the naming rights of the stadium, and that makes them commercial partners with the Christian God Praising Montford Brothers who would come across as only ridiculous if not for their association with the right-wing Coors family.

Coors purchased the naming rights from the city of Denver.
It's something called "advertising."
Would you say that purchasing advertising in say, the NYT, makes MoveOn a partner??? (Don't answer that, it is sarcasm and I couldn't resist..)
BTW - It's probably one of the 3 best stadiums in the country to watch a game, is very family friendly and will not tolerate drunken aholes acting out their fantasies to the detriment of others trying to enjoy the game.
As for beer... They have "Fat Tire" on sale. Nothing else need be said.
