Jena Six Defendant Mychal Bell Sentenced to 18 Months

Jena Six defendant Mychal Bell was sentenced to 18 months in jail today on a prior juvenile charge. His parents were ordered to pay court costs and witness fees. The prior case involved two counts of simple battery and two counts of criminal destruction of property.

Bell was on probation and had incurred new charges prior to the December 4 incident which resulted in six defendants being charged with felonies.

Three months prior to that [December 4] attack, Bell committed two violent crimes while on probation for a battery Christmas Day 2005, according to testimony.

....LaSalle District Attorney Reed Walters pointed out that Bell was placed on probation until his 18th birthday — Jan. 18, 2008 — after an incident of battery Dec. 25, 2005. After being placed on probation, he was adjudicated of three other crimes, the two in September and another charge of criminal damage to property that occurred on July 25, 2006.

    for beating the crap out of someone else, particular for a repeated offender.

    I being young is a good excuse to commit violent crimes. I wonder if 3-strikes laws will kick in for Mr. Bell when he becomes an adult.
