Cut off of funding for the Iraq war (none / 0) (#1)
by OldPara on Tue Jan 23, 2007 at 08:51:28 AM EST
Bush is desperately looking for scapegoats to take the blame for the failure of the war in Iraq.  While it is frustrating that Congress can do little to stop his latest troop "surge", it would be a mistake for Congress to try to cut off funding for the war.  Stopping funding would enable Bush to lay the blame on Congress for the inevitable failure in Iraq and for the subsequent loss of US lives.  That would weaken the chances in 2008 of getting rid of the Republicans.  It is better for Congress to continue to strongly voice opposition to the war while begrudgingly passing some level of supplemental funding.  The war would go on but the blame for the inevitable failure in Iraq would remain where it belongs, with the Bush administration.
