Rumsfeld Leaves 2,930 Behind in Iraq

As Donald Rumsfeld makes one last secret trip to Iraq (a final desperate search for WMD's?), he is surely comforted to know that his life is at less risk than the troops who served under his watch. At least 2,930 of them have died in Iraq -- so far.

You know, enjoy the fruits of Freedom for a while? Just like his troops are doing?

Pretty silly and calous to lay all the deaths at the feet of Rumsfeld.

What about the president, the congress (including) democrats that voted for the war.  The country as a whole.  The terrorists and insurgents that are planting the bombs and shooting our soldiers?

Rumsfeld made mistakes obviously but let history judge him.   Taking cheap shots like this is just silly.

...SoD when it was he who discarded not only the twelve years of military planning for invading Iraq started under Daddy, he ALSO discarded the most recent assessment under Clinton which in 1999 war game planners said it would take 400,000 troops and there STILL would be no guarantee Iraq would not devolve into civil war.

So, yeah, I think rummy deserves every bit of scorn, derision, and contempt that can be heaped upon him.

By ignoring generals with hundreds of years of combined experience and opting for the "quick kill" with absolutely no plan for maintaining peace, he directly caused the needless deaths of thousands of troops, the wounding of tens of thousands, and the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis.

That track record has undoubtedly earned him a very special place in hell, right beside bush and cheney.

have we never seen you, Slado,  either condemn the invasion of Iraq, or ever, even once, call out anyone who supported it.

And if I'm wrong and I just missed it when you did, which is more than possible, then why have we never seen you call out or condemn the people who conceived of, started, and executed this travesty that has resulted in the deaths and maimings of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, and tens of thousands of Americans. Or would that be just "silly and calous"?

Including Rumsfeld. Oh, and that other maniacal idiot who talks to god through his fillings in his spare time too.

rumsfeld was the sole architect for the invasion, period. it was he who planned it, ignoring actual military experts and past experience. gwb sure didn't, he wouldn't have a clue. neither, it seems, did rumsfeld.

so yes, he deserves every bit of criticism he gets, and more really.

as to those dems who voted for it, they did so for mostly the same reasons that many of us ended up supporting it, eventually: colin powell lied to us, and we trusted him.

even at that, i was never 100% behind it. but, i figured "if colin powell says it's so, then it must be. he would never knowingly put troops in harm's way for nothing."

... in a way; bush, checney, rice, powell and their neocon clique all were responsible for the deaths of those soldiers. But the swoldiers' blood can't be divided bewteen them, thay are all guilty of war crimes.

He ain't the only guilty party, that's for damn sure.

But he's one of them...I say cancel his return flight and let him reap what he helped sow.
