Saddam's Execution Draws Closer

Saddam was provided a jail house visit with his brothers today.

His execution will be taped by the Iraqi authorities.

There seems to be some disagreement about whether he will be executed this weekend.

He may be turned over to Iraqi authorities by Sunday. A religious holiday may prevent his execution before next week.

But Iraqi officials backed away from suggestions they would definitely hang him within a month and a cabinet minister told Reuters a week-long religious holiday would stall any execution.

He's reportedly in high spirits and anticipating martyrdom:

"He was in very high spirits and clearly readying himself," Badie Aref, a defence lawyer, told Reuters after the 69-year-old former leader met half-brothers Watban and Sabawi, who are also both held at the US army's Camp Cropper near Baghdad airport.

"He told them he was happy he would meet his death at the hands of his enemies and be a martyr, not just languish in jail. "He ... gave them letters to his family in anticipation."

NBC News reports he will be executed by Sunday. The U.S. already has received the request to turn him over to the Iraqis.

This is an outrage. Moral superiority? (5.00 / 1) (#1)

We feel morally superior enought to invade and overthrow a nation, yet we do not have the superior intellect to realize that justice has been done, and lock him away.

We are no better than the "bloodthirsty savages" we claim to oppose. This is a sad statement about humanity.

    We feel morally superior...

It is just buisness. The lip service to morality is just part of the tv commercial.
