Documentary: US Kept French From Taking Out bin Laden

Remarkable if true:

A documentary says French special forces had Osama bin Laden in their sights twice about three years ago but their U.S. superiors never ordered them to fire. . . . The documentary, due to air next year and seen by Reuters on Tuesday, says the troops could have killed the al Qaeda leader in Afghanistan but the order to shoot never came, possibly because it took too long to request it. "In 2003 and 2004 we had bin Laden in our sights. The sniper said 'I have bin Laden'," an anonymous French soldier is quoted as saying.

Wanted dead or alive? Maybe not. Grain of salt however:

The French military, however, said that the incidents never happened and the report was "erroneous information."

They may not be telling the truth.

question, why did ABC run "Path to 9/11" when they KNEW it was not true? I don't recall you protesting that Jim.

It not only says they held their fire, but that they did so while actively holding open an escape route for him

I don't know if I buy the story or not, but if true, you don't honestly expect the French govt. to admit this tremendous f-up do you?

I don't know what to believe anymore.  Or who to trust.  Very uncertain times...

And either no one has asked him or bush has just never explained how jets were sent throughout America to pick-up and provide transportation home for bin Laden family members BEFORE the FBI could question them. The FBI was recently ordered to turn over documents to Judicial Watch.

Even if it is not credible, it remains a fun thing to throw back at the next wingnut who claims that Clinton turned down offers from Sudan to hand over OBL.  If they point out that the French military denies it, you have the quick retort, "Oooh, and the French are so trustwrothy aren't they."

    It's so deliciously obnoxious.
