Three detainees at Guantanamo have been released and sent to Albania. It was determined they were no longer enemy combatants. Were they ever?

    ::were:: not "enemy combatants"... ahem (4.00 / 1) (#3)

    From the AP article:

"The United States has done the utmost to ensure that these three detainees will be treated humanely upon release," the Pentagon said in a separate announcement of their release.

As compared to what? Their treatment while in Guantanamo?

It was determined they were no longer enemy combatants. Were they ever?

Apparently not, since the decsions was made that they were not "enemy combatants".

Would it surprise anyone if they don't much like the US and are perhaps motivated to attack America  now?

4 years in prison camp for the "wrong place wrong time", I'd sure as hell hate my jailer.

Guantanamo just ain't worth it...does more harm to our security than good, especially when the we lock up non-combatants.  Shut the embarassment down already.

My god bush is such an embarrassment.

Really? This indicates that we have released some that should not have been. So the bar must not have been too high

Citing a memo prepared for him by his staff, Hunter proceeded to discuss some of the at least 10 detainees who have been released from Guantanamo Bay, or Gitmo, only to re-join the fight against the U.S. coalition bringing democracy to Afghanistan.

Among the names listed in the memo is Mohammed Yusif Yaqeb (search), also known as Mullah Shazada. Yaqeb was released in May 2003. He proceeded to become the head of Taliban (search) operations in southern Afghanistan and was killed one year later in a fight with U.S. forces.

Bill, Patton is quoted as sating:

"I don't want to pay for the same ground twice."

If I remember right you are a combat Vietnam Veteran.  You are on pain killers due to wounds received in battle, or that is my impression based on your comments.

Please correct me if I am wrong in these matters.

We paid for the same ground many times in Vitenam.
Surely you don't want to do that again.

Wow.  This might not be outright name-calling, but it sure is a sleazy personal attack.

It might not be outright name-calling, bit it is outright trollish baiting. But maybe it's better to leave it there. Like light contrasted with darkness, we can only know integrity by seeing its opposite, and insanity by what it is not.

This may get me kicked off this site, and I'll probably regret saying this later, but here goes...

Jim... you know how to use a gun? Bullets are cheap, and plentiful, you can get lots of 'em almost anywhere if you are out of 'em...

    You only need one, though...

Now, stand up again and speak of your high moral position.

Really edger, you do provide us with some laughter with your hypocritical positions.

Why don't you give the readers a link to the thread in which I wrote that.

    You know, for context.

I will if you don't, but I'll give you some time. I don't want you to feel that I'm going to continually do your homework for you, you know.

Here is the original thread: Red Cross Banned From Bringing Food and Supplies to Nola, during Hurricane Katrina.

It's a rather interesting read. My comment was #43, here.

aw - Bill has made a point several times during the debates we have had regarding his physical condition. If you bring a point up, don't be shocked if someone asks for details, especially if appears to be a source, or motive, for their continual criticism of the country.

That is neither personal or sleazy, just a request for information to provide better understanding.

If you can provide a link to Bill criticizing his country then do so.

Or drop the implication. It's not helping your image.

...occupied, and I had been arrested, held illegally without trial for 31/2 to 4 years, you betcha the first thing I would do upon release is take up arms against the oppressors, and your blanket failure to recognize a rather simple element of human nature confounds me.

And no, I was one of the "lucky" ones who flew out of "Nam without a scratch, until twenty years later the two cancers I suffered from Agent Orange exposure came to destroy life as I had know it and left me beset with chronic neurological pain that is the only constant of my existence, and that provides a 27/7/365 reminder of the evils of war.

And, yes, I strongly believe that you are wrong in these matters.

And as for "paying for the same ground twice", I'll bet there are a few hundred thousand displaced Fallujahans who recognize that we are REPEATEDLY and OFTEN fighting and re-fighting the same battles for the same ground in Iraq, ad nauseam, in a perfect example of insanity: Doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results.

Thanks for your defense of me aw and Edger, but I'm perfectly capable of absorbing BS and not being offended (too much).

I am glad to know that you agree with me that we shouldn't use a strategy of taking the same ground twice. But, unlike you, my concern was our military first, and then some sympathy for any innocent civilians involved.

I am sorry to hear of your cancers, but since you appear to be surviving for somewhere in the neighborhood of 14 to 18 years you may have licked the cancer. I certainly hope so and wish you well.

And yes, I understand you think me wrong.
