Staying the Course

Voters sent an unambiguous message that it's time to begin reducing the number of U.S. troops in Iraq. This is the White House response:

The Pentagon announced Friday that 57,000 U.S. troops, including five combat brigades, have been told to deploy to Iraq early next year -- a move that will maintain current force levels there.

A/k/a, stay the course.

Called THE GROUND TRUTH.  An eye-opener in terms of how the military treats its soldiers after their post-combat return home -- clue: it's gotten better at treating them piss poorly, with little humanity, much less gratitude.  Medals are nice, but they don't allow you to walk again, or feel again, or live right again.  Astonishing and infuriating and another reason to end this nightmare now, yesterday, a week ago.

    Check it out.

if allen lost this time because he was rude, etc., he'd never have been elected to begin with. he's always been rude, demeaning and elitist, as well as not very bright. so no, that isn't why allen lost. he lost because jim webb gave voters a very clear contrast in candidates: someone who knows what he's talking about (webb) vs someone who doesn't now, and never did, have a clue (allen).

while some of the issues you note probably entered into those races, in some measure, the overriding issue for the republicans was their association with pres. bush, and their fairly well unified support for his war in iraq.

That's because they should then go to prison.

It was unambiguous? Considering that it wasn't a direct referendum then by definition it was entirely ambiguous.

Tester beat Burns partly because of corruption. Lieberman beat Lamont not because of troop reduction. McCaskill beat Talent partly based on stem cell research. Webb beat Allen because Allen was rude, demeaning, and elitist. Brown beat Dewine based mainly on protectionist policies.

Some people don't support Bush because of the deficits, Katrina, Guantanamo, immigration, etc...
