Obama for Lamont

Barack speaks:

Ned Lamont has waged an impressive grassroots campaign to give the people of Connecticut a choice in the November Senate election. He has a vision for his state and country, and his campaign has been about presenting that vision to Connecticut voters.

Ned Lamont and I share a commitment to bringing our troops home safely from Iraq, to achieving energy independence, to helping all our citizens realize the American dream, and to empowering the American people to reclaim their government. Ned Lamont’s campaign is about delivering on these goals in Washington.

The November 7th election is right around the corner. Please join me in supporting Ned Lamont with your hard work on-the-ground in these closing weeks of the campaign.

Grassroots campaign? Either Obama does not understand the meaning of that word or he is simply displaying the same desperation as everyone else out to bring down Lieberman. A campaign financed almost exclusively from the family fortune and out-of-state contributors would typify the antithesis of a "grassroots" campaign.

Most of the talk now is simply how large Lieberman's margin will be and how to spin the inevitble result as something different than the prviously asserted "referendum on the war."

Making Lamont a standard-bearer of the anti-war movement was a collossal blunder. The war is unpopular but Lamont is too and he is a singularly unattractive candidate on a multitude of levels.

By the way, at least it's fortunate that Lamont's many failings provide ammunition to argue persuasively that his loss is not indicative of the weakness of the ant-war movement. The best spin is that which is mostly true. Many people will vote for Lieberman despite disagreeing with him about the war because the alternative is so unappealing.
