TalkLeft: More Than Worth It

I am a newcomer to posting here at TalkLeft, but have been a longtime reader and fan of Jeralyn, Chris and LNILR.

What I have found since becoming a poster at TalkLeft is the intelligent and generally civil exchange of ideas and arguments that the TalkLeft community brings. And it can only get better now that TalkLeft has installed Scoop software, the best there is in my opinion. The best voices, and often, the best conversations, will often now be found in the diaries, linked in the right hand column.

Jeralyn has been generous with us in making this investment in Scoop. I wish to emulate her generosity, and ask the TalkLeft community to join me. I am offering a $500 matching contribution to TalkLeft - I will match your contributions dollar for dollar up to a maximum of $500.     This site has preserved a huge chunk of (what is left of) my sanity for the last four years. I only wish I could send more but I got a kid on the springboard to college. And this ain't no socialist country. You got to pony up some serious coin to get ahead in Umurrika.

    There are precious few life-rafts of sanity in the troubled seas in which we find ourselves. Inspired by Big Tent's generosity, we can all help keep this one afloat. At a minimum, just think how much you would have paid at a newsstand for the sort of investigative reporting and analysis Jeralyn has provided just on the Valerie Plame scandal, and contribute accordingly. There are still far too many sunshine patriots among us, particularly when the sacrifice asked of us is so comparatively small.

    Big Tent, what a surprise and a hugely generous personal offer you have made.  Thank you for it.

    I also thank those of you who have sent in contributions and I will send out individual e-mails over the weekend.

    The contributions will be a big help as the site conversion to Scoop cost me several thousand dollars.  I didn't ask for donations before or during the process because I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but now that it's done and a success in terms of still looking like TalkLeft while being faster and far easier to comment, I would welcome all contributions.

    Even if you don't care for the Scoop format, my monthly hosting costs (for moving to a dedicated fast server with live people I can talk to when things go wrong)have increased ten-fold.   So contributions will go to those costs as well.

    Again thanks to Big Tent and to all you readers who have contributed and helped with site feedback.  Please keep both coming.

    Jeralyn, I appreciate what you do more than I can express.  Sadly, I decided to go into a career that is currently paying me a pittance (here's the lesson: don't go into writing when you can go into Law...) but I've sent you a small gift just to say thanks.
