Scribe - The same judge, obviously a Demo since he was appointed by Clinton, demanded a list of people visiting Cheney's residence.

Now you might make a case that a list of people visiting his office should be public information.. But his home? Don't you think that is over the top?

How would you like to tell the WA everyone who visited your home? Oh, I know.. if Cheney has nothing to hide, he shouldn't mind, eh??

The VP's residence is not a private house.  It is a government building, and the visitor logs are, if I recall correctly, kept by the Secret Service in the course of their ordinary business, on the taxpayer dime.

Unlike the Preznit, who lives upstairs in what is, effectively, an office building with a catering hall (White House Mess and the reception and social function rooms) attached, the VP residence, called Blair House, was once a private house, later taken over by (or donated to, I forget) the gov't.  The VP's office, in this admin, is in the whole WH/EOB complex.  Or, depending on how the mood strikes him, I guess, on a plant-and-shoot quail farm somewhere.

As to the politics of the judge - one cannot assume that with a Clinton appointee he only appointed Demos.  Unlike the current occupant at 1600, WJC was not parochial that way.

Good to see you back JimakaPPJ - I thought we might have lost you somewhere in the transition.

So, who is the insurgent General Giap influencing the American Media these days?

Uh, I have never ever never ever said tha Giap influenced the american media. Where do you get such obviously nutty things???

I have said, and provided links, that shows that Giap was influenced by the american media to understand that they were against the war, and that they would carry Giap's water.., although I don't think that they were really smart enough to know what they were doing.

    You write:

Who is the American Media equivalent of Walter Cronkite?

I assume you mean "in the American..."

Actually their names are legion, but can be identified as the MSM and the anti-war Left.

Enjoy, dear peaches. But can you please work on your accuracy? You're starting to sound like any common Demo politican.

Nobody is taking the stadium threat seriously.  It's clearly a trick by the Democrats, timed to undermine the perceived importance of the Global War on Terror.

Or maybe, since voters now think Dems are better on national security, it's a plain old scare-'em trick, just lacking Rove's competence.

you know what would be nice? to have media people who actually took their jobs seriously, as opposed to those who just use to fill time between weekends at their "cottages" in the hamptons. pros willing to do the heavy lifting, not afraid to be accused of being unfair, who called liars liars.

it would require some actual work on their part, but for the millions they're paid, it seems only reasonable.

    JM, I often get the

    Post Failed.
Subject is too long (max is 50 characters).

message when I go to post, because the thread title is automatically put in the subject line, and that title is often in excess of 50 characters.

This forces us to modify the subject line in order to post. Small quibble to be sure, but it is kinda annoying...

Other than that, it seems to be working great!

Re:  the re line - what's really annoying is, if the post fails because the subject line is more than 50 characters and then, by some mistake, you hit the delete or backspace key while the cursor's in the body of the comment, your whole comment goes - ZIP! - into the ether.

    Stupid electrons.

This morning I lost a well-done comment on Rummy's shrewdness and a half hour of my time to that bug. And my temper, for a few minutes.

    This didn't stay in Vegas....

The Repug candidate for governor of Nevada has just done himself really well.  Per the Vegas papers in a very long article, he was accused of attempting sexual battery on a cocktail waitress this past Friday night.  She made three calls to 911 and a police report, but then decided to withdraw the complaint Saturday, saying:

"mainly because of who he is. 'Cause of who he is, and I just don't want to go up against something like that."

The candidate, Jim Gibbons, is currently a Republican member of the House of Representatives.  Friday night, he and his party ran up a bar tab of $300.  He told the woman how his marriage wasn't much anymore, and some more of the usual lines 60-something guys use on women half their age.

It is reported people in the bar have some of the episode on their camera phones.

Great quote, from the 911 tape:

He didn't seem like he was under the influence of anything other than alcohol, correct?" the operator asks.

"Oh, probably power," Mazzeo says laughing. "But I don't know."

    But, it's Vegas, Baby!

A judge ruled today that WH visitor logs for Deadeye Dick Cheney, his counsel, spokesperson, and chief of staff have to be turned over, in response to media requests.

Deadeye's lame argument in response is that it would impair the Constitutional function of the Vice-President to force him to tell who he visits with.  Which seems particularly lame, since the only functions the Vice-President has, under the Constitution, are to wait around for the Preznit to die (Art. II, sec. 1 and Amend. XXV), be subject to impeachment (Art. II, sec. 4)and preside over the Senate (Art. I, sec. 3).

I think, from reading the newspaper article, that he never quite got to the point of asking for any specific act(s).  But, I did take away that he was more than a little physical in his attempt - something about he "grabbed her, shoved her against a wall and threatened her in a Las Vegas parking garage after she rebuffed his advances".  WJC did not, to my recollection, work over Monica, nor did he have to.

And, who does he think he is?  A Republican Congressman running to be the Governor of Nevada, with his wife running to take his seat in Congress.  (That must be a very happy home right about now.)

Clinton ought to know the serious legal ramifications of allowing torture in 'ticking bomb' scenarios.

Los Angeles Times       October 20, 2006

HAS HILLARY CLINTON been watching too many episodes of "24," or is she just determined to prove that she really is entirely without principles?

Whichever it is, Clinton hit a new low last week, telling the New York Daily News that the president should have "some lawful authority" to use torture or other "severe" interrogation methods in a so-called ticking-bomb scenario. ...

CLINTON OUGHT to know better. Plenty of immoral things might conceivably be justified in far-fetched hypothetical situations, but that doesn't mean the law should bless those exceptions in advance. ...

Clinton was right about one thing: When you start to contemplate writing those "very, very narrow" exceptions into law, you've fallen as low as it's possible to go.
