Welcome to the New TalkLeft

TalkLeft has moved to Scoop. The problems with comments are resolved. Just register once, and you will be set.

I hope you like the new ease of commenting. Once you register, you can post comments. If you want to be able to post diaries, e-mail me and I will consider re-setting your permissions to be able to do so.

TalkLeft should both load faster now and your comments (once you register) should be pretty close to instantaneous. We're on a huge server, and we're the only site on it.

It's taken 40 days and 40 nights and more than a few thousand dollars. Be kind.

If you have problems, e-mail me.

Weve been through some things together
With trunks of memories still to come
We found things to do in stormy weather
    Long may you run.

    Long may you run.
    Long may you run.
    Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
    Long may you run.

    Congrats on the move!

BTW, none of the buttons for formatting or linking work for me and it seems the trackback button is connected to the comment button at the bottom of each post.

I also can't see other's comments when I'm on the comment page.

    I'm using Safari 2.0.4

by Jeralyn on Mon Oct 16, 2006 at 07:39:09 AM EST
Sailor, the comments are threaded, so if you click the one you want to respond to (Reply to This) it will come up right above "Post a comment".

As to the buttons, they may not work in Safari, I'll ask about that.  The html coding instructions are at the bottom of the comment box in case the buttons don't work.

Congratulations on the move.  They did a great job honoring the old style, and the visual differences look nice too.

One concern: since the comment preview page doesn't show others' comments, too, we'll have more "oops I didn't realize X said Y before I posted" comments.  It'll help if we manually refresh the comment-viewing page in another window/tab before posting.

OK, a bit different, but still workable...I slected "flat unthreaded" comments from the drop down menu at the bottom of the thread and didn't have to click on the links to read them...I think.

Do you have to log in before every comment?

I also went through registration first. We may have a similar trait in that I have to read Every. Dang. Word. of the instructions or I'll screw it up. Maybe it's a male thing. Thanks for the settings observation. The original comments layout is very busy. By adopting certain formats you can really cut down on the clutter. I also removed the ratings scale, as I'm sure our responses will more than adequately show our scoring of the comments.

Well Obviously you've figured it out.  I'm still standing out on the cold dark night...Metaphorically.  What did you do?  I created a new user, with a user name and password and email, but I can't find a registration tab.   I'm looking and I know as soon as I get there it's gonna be a slap the forehead moment.

You registered, but that wasn't enough. Can you find the "Create New Account" anywhere (near the bottom of the comments thread? It may be gone now, in that you may have already created your account as Anonymous Hero, and may have to email JM to ask to re-create a new name associated with your email address.

Hang on dude. Don't wanna lose ya now!

    Edger,

Look on the right sidebar. You should see your user name and a whole bunch of options. Click on "Comment Preferences."

I just found it, now I have to figure out what I like.
